Assassin’s Creed® is a game that redefined the action-adventure genre. With photo-realistic graphics, an advanced physics model, and a nearly fanatical attention to detail, this title was able to begin a new chapter in gaming history. However, the excellent technical aspects are only half of the reason why it became so popular; the other half is the story.
While you technically play the game as Desmond Miles, the main focus of the game takes place elsewhere. The year is 1191: Jerusalem, the middle of the Third Crusade. You are a member of a mysterious order of assassins where you have trained your whole life to do one thing and one thing only – to kill. The recently growing influence of the Order of the Knights Templar disturbs the delicate balance of power in the region and therefore directly threatens The Brotherhood. The clash of the two most powerful organizations in Jerusalem at the time has the most unexpected consequences and triggers devastating events that threaten the world itself, and you – Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad – are in the middle of all this.
Well-constructed story that will pleasantly surprise you many times along the way.
Impressive level of interaction with the environment – crowds react to what you do and act accordingly.
Open world gameplay lets you to decide how and when to achieve objectives, where to go, and gives you nearly complete freedom to get there.

I am going to be blunt some people hate everything have a very narrow point of view they think they are superstars and every game is TOO easy for them. 90 plus percent don't fit in that categlory I enjoy a game for the play and feel it needs to have a good story although not perfect "IT IS" a very enjoyable game in my honest opinion. I have almost all the Assassian's Creed games and I really like all of them. Listen to the ones who have a good review and HEAR what they like about it that will tell you more about if you might like the game than a a dozen negative reviews will. That applies to any game not just this one. Some people will hate the best of games because they just don't get it the story and or play. That does not make the game bad just not their cup of tea.
It really pains me to leave a negative review of this game, especially on GOG, but this version of the game suffers from terrible controller support, a myriad of bugs that heavily affect play including being essentially unable to run above 60fps without breaking physics, and very frequent freezing caused by the game trying to contact a long dead Ubisoft server that should have been patched out when it first became available on this storefront.
GOG desperately needs to make some form of patch to this title to at least remedy the server issue as it is the most egregious of the performance issues, and no game that we purchase on GOG should even be TRYING to contact servers while we're playing unless we consent to it doing so. This issue should not exist as a bare minimum for this storefront and what they stand for.
This is one of my favorite games of all time, but I do not think it is for everyone. I love it because it is immersive. The mechanics force players to observe the world and not to rush through it, as a result, mission mechanics repeat themselves, but this clears away any learning curve that might take you out of the experience. Also, this is why many feel the the gameplay is slow or even boring. If you like fast and relflex intensive games, I do not think you will like this one. If you like getting lost in an immersive an highly detailed world (LA Noire fan?), you will have a wonderful time.
Let me start by saying that Assassin's Creed II is one of the best games I have ever played. It has absolutely amazing graphics, a beautiful world, lots to do, a FANTASTIC story, wonderful and deep characters, and the game was entertaining from start to finish.
Now, how I feel about the original Assassin's Creed...
This game has a fantastic engine, and the gameplay is extremely fun. Running around from rooftop to rooftop, assassinating random guards is fantastically fun.
Unfortunately, when it comes down to doing missions, the game becomes extremely repetitive and boring.
You might spend 30 minutes running around the city, performing different tasks to gain information on your target. You get everything set up, and all you need to do is sneak into the crowd, blend in, and make the kill.
But then, a crazy old old beggar man in the crowd gets angry, and pushes you for no reason at all. No big deal, right? Only now, all the guards have drawn their weapons and are coming towards you. So what do you do? You kill them all, one by one, and then assassinate the target.
And it wasn't even hard. This is how every single assassination goes. It becomes so impossible to stealth kill that it ends up being a massive battle against tons of guards, and you kill them all one by one with a few well timed strikes.
There is a problem with a game when it is more fun to make up your own story line and run around and kill people than it is to do the assassinations you're supposed to.
On top of that, it takes forever to quit, as you have to quit from the Middle Ages into modern times, then walk around and quit modern times, then quit the game file, and menu, and other menu... something like that.
All in all, its a wonderful world to explore, but it seems like they put all the time into the engine and the mechanics. Considering they really hit the nail on the head with Assassin's Creed II, there really is no point playing this one.
Keep in mind that I haven't played any of the other games in the series (mostly due to them not being on GOG), so I'm not going to compare any of the other games to this one.
The premise is that your an assassin from 1189–1192 during the Third Crusade, in which you are tasked to seek out info about targets on what they've done, and kill them. There is a bit more to the game than this, but this is what your mostly doing.
So, here's what I like:
1. I like the setting. Seriously, how many games do you know of that take place in the Middle East in 1000 A.D. that aren't strategy games? We need more exploration in this timeline.
2. I like the movement. I'm not meaning about wall climbing or sword play, but I mean walking and talking, punching or grabbing, it all looks so natural. Though the horse could use a bit of work.
3. I like the cities. They look like places people would live in, not to forget that there are people there going about their day to day lives.
4: I like the exposition. Not really of the story or the writing, more of what everyone has to say, each one having their own ideologies that really give a feel for everyone there.
5: Sword-fights. Yeah I know he's not like a Rambo killing machine, but he's not trained to be one. He's an assassin, he's trained to hide in the crowd and escape, and I'm glad that's a main core part of the game.
What I don't like:
1. They did the whole give-you-every-ability/weapon-from-the-start-then-take-it-from-you-in-the-start, I don't know why they do this. Why not just give weapons off as progression at the start?
2. I'll admit, Altiar (protagonist) is a bit annoying, but I tolerate it a bit for understanding that he's young and immature. You, however, may not.
3. Racing side-mission. Ok, dealing with guard picking on town fold, understandable. Moving to the top of a building to get a better view of your surroundings, makes sense. But what does racing have to do with anything in the middle east?
