Loveable characters designed by Doug TenNapel creator of the Earthworm Jim and developed by creators of The Neverhood, Ed Schofield and Mike Dietz.
Rich cast of voiceover talent brings Armikrog’s characters to life, including well-known actors Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Rob Paulsen (Pinky and the Brain) and Michael J. Nelson (Mystery Science Theater 3000).
people are giving this game a hard time. and rightfully so - it is very unpolished. everything has already been stated by other users, but the one thing I want to add is, I kinda was disappointed that there is absolutely no interaction between the two main characters tommynaut and beak-beak. granted, the developers probably never marketed the game with such a feature, but the trailer raised my expectations and appetite.
the trailer showcases the first cut scene in the game and once you start playing, the characters barely talk to each other. so much wasted potential here, because the characters are fun and well dubbed.
avoid the game for now and wait for a sale.
This would have been a great game to play, unfortunately I will never be able to play it as I am fully deaf and the game maker has made it inaccessible by not including TEXT for English speaking Deaf people! Instead only audio. Why? What is that going to achieve?
I played Armikrog a long time ago, but it was so bad that I wrote a review for it for a small adventure games website.
The game has mindboggling bugs - see a closed door next to a panel with a puzzle that will open said door? Don't bother with that puzzle - just click on the door. Not-Kleymen (sorry, I forgot his name) will just walk through like some Shaolin monk. I even skipped the villain's introduction scene and basically finished the game when I lacked one crucial item. I had no idea what's going on, the villain just appeared without me seeing him before and the game ended shortly after. I learned later that I skipped a major event and a part of the game. Man oh man.
Other thing: the story is lackluster, incredibly short and just... well, pretty bad, to be honest. Nothing interesting to see here, really. It feels like half an episode of a cartoon show - and the game lasted me for 4-5 hours, too.
What else... ah, yes, the puzzles. Some are good, some are mediocre and some are... incredibly bad. The worst puzzle, and a recurring one at that, was the lullaby puzzle. Just... what were they thinking?
The only thing that's actually good is the visuals, but they still are not on the same level as Neverhood.
Overall, there is some fun to be had with this game, sometimes it's even very fun, but the lackluster nature of this game prevented me to rate it anywhere higher than 4/10.
Play it only if you're really curious, and even then prepare to be disappointed in the end.
I loved the Neverhood. It's one of my all-time favorites. This game is nowhere near the quality of Neverhood. The claymation is nice, but it isn't nearly as detailed as the original. The music is not even noticeable, and music was one of the great parts of NH.
The puzzles aren't challenging at all, it seems like not a lot of effort was put into making them. Puzzles rarely need any effort other than a bit of time.
The plot is forgettable. Characters? A joke.
The gameplay is confusing and poorly executed. Besides this it's buggy even with the patch, and there was one part that I was never able to figure out how (or if) it can be finished. Apparently it's not important, though, because I was able to beat the game without doing it.
Definitely not worth full price (lucky I got it on sale).
Positive:
Great claymation
Environment looks very nice
Negative
Some puzzles are very obscure
Gets boring fast, mostly due to the insane puzzles which are not very intuitive
You have no feedback on what exactly you have to do in the game and why.
Rather short
Story is bad and makes sense only at the end
