Loveable characters designed by Doug TenNapel creator of the Earthworm Jim and developed by creators of The Neverhood, Ed Schofield and Mike Dietz.
Rich cast of voiceover talent brings Armikrog’s characters to life, including well-known actors Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Rob Paulsen (Pinky and the Brain) and Michael J. Nelson (Mystery Science Theater 3000).
people are giving this game a hard time. and rightfully so - it is very unpolished. everything has already been stated by other users, but the one thing I want to add is, I kinda was disappointed that there is absolutely no interaction between the two main characters tommynaut and beak-beak. granted, the developers probably never marketed the game with such a feature, but the trailer raised my expectations and appetite.
the trailer showcases the first cut scene in the game and once you start playing, the characters barely talk to each other. so much wasted potential here, because the characters are fun and well dubbed.
avoid the game for now and wait for a sale.
This would have been a great game to play, unfortunately I will never be able to play it as I am fully deaf and the game maker has made it inaccessible by not including TEXT for English speaking Deaf people! Instead only audio. Why? What is that going to achieve?
I played Armikrog a long time ago, but it was so bad that I wrote a review for it for a small adventure games website.
The game has mindboggling bugs - see a closed door next to a panel with a puzzle that will open said door? Don't bother with that puzzle - just click on the door. Not-Kleymen (sorry, I forgot his name) will just walk through like some Shaolin monk. I even skipped the villain's introduction scene and basically finished the game when I lacked one crucial item. I had no idea what's going on, the villain just appeared without me seeing him before and the game ended shortly after. I learned later that I skipped a major event and a part of the game. Man oh man.
Other thing: the story is lackluster, incredibly short and just... well, pretty bad, to be honest. Nothing interesting to see here, really. It feels like half an episode of a cartoon show - and the game lasted me for 4-5 hours, too.
What else... ah, yes, the puzzles. Some are good, some are mediocre and some are... incredibly bad. The worst puzzle, and a recurring one at that, was the lullaby puzzle. Just... what were they thinking?
The only thing that's actually good is the visuals, but they still are not on the same level as Neverhood.
Overall, there is some fun to be had with this game, sometimes it's even very fun, but the lackluster nature of this game prevented me to rate it anywhere higher than 4/10.
Play it only if you're really curious, and even then prepare to be disappointed in the end.
It's really hard to rate that game. The claymotion is beautiful, the story is really nice (story itself, not its delivery, which is horrible), the OST doesn't leave my player at all (just listen to that title track, wow!). However, to say that the game is unpolished would be a huge blow to all the unpolished games out there - this is like an underdeveloped early beta or something. Lots of puzzles etc. are looking like placeholders for something actually being a challenge to any extent. The music is there one moment and a few seconds later stops. After a few minutes in a random moment music appears again. Why? Don't know. Want to exit reading the story on the wall (written with some generic font and some typos... really?) in one of the rooms? Click a hundred times, maybe the game will let you. It's just the beginning of a long list of issues.
5/5 for the idea, story, claymotion, music, lots of love put into the project.
1/5 for the execution.
3/5 overall.
And screw Unity. Really. This thing is killing video games.
Besides the rush that the game was made, the bugs and some bad level design I cant say this is a total waste of money and time. I had some good time playing it.
For a nice gameplay experience, just take some psychedelic mushrooms and let the music flow.
I cant give 4 stars because the end of the story is really disappointing, like the devs were in a rush to release it.
Its sad to see so much potential just being wasted..
