Quite an Experience!

Anvil of Dawn truly surprised me, a tale wavered in simple heroic deeds but told in a masterfully manner. Basically, the story, albeit being pretty simple (kill bad guy, good guys wins) is the thing that kept me going most of the game. That's where the problem is: if the story is quite, actually, more than good, the gameplay is simple.... a little too much simple. Not enough to keep you (me, in this case) playing until the end. The repetition of tasks and fighting (although there a nice variety of spells) starts to be excruciating boring right in the middle of the game, also because maps and number of repeating enemies are enormous (however, should you love grinding, this game is absolutely perfect!). Besides that, the game offers, and this is where it truly shines, astonishing graphics and magnificent soundtracks (The anvil of dawn/underground city <3), all to support what I found out to be a magical tale of desperate battles and difficult journeys (trust me, the game is amazing at that). So, YES! Sure, this game requires a little bit of dedication but this perpetual weaving of sacrifice and impeding doom are really worth it!

Good Memories

I've been waiting for this game to appear on GOG. I used to run this game on a Pentium 75. I made it all the way to the lair of the giant Ice Worm and got stuck. So close to the ending! I liked the puzzles, they made you use your brain a little. That is something seriously lacking in today's RPG's. My favorite part of the were game "The Clansmen". I originally paid $39.99 for this game when it came out and got many hours of great gameplay from it. This game is toally worth the $5.99 asking price.

Finally it's here!

A great game to add to the RPG section, Anvil of Dawn features a learn by doing system. It is a game with great puzzles, memorable NPCs, different kinds of locations, interesting monsters and quests. Well worth the download and money. Well worth it and you'll enjoy this one. 5 Stars

Decent grid crawler

While Anvil of Dawn struggles to reach the quality of Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos (Westwood Studios' dungeon crawler from 1993 and spiritual successor to the Eye of the Beholder series), its heart is in the right place. It has plenty of content and adds features such as rolling bolders, pushable blocks, oustanding automap features and pre-rendered, 3d overland travel.

Dark and Beautiful

I may be biased, because I played this back in the days, so do excuse the fangirling. I'll try to be as objective as I can. So let's get the fangirling part out of the way first: OMGERMAGEHRDTHISISSUCHAGOODGAMEPLAYITPLAY! Okay, on we go. On the surface this game seems average. The graphics are on the verge between 2D and 3D, from that ugly period of the 90s where new games looked actually worse than earlier ones. The block-movement is something you need to get used to and the interface is a bit clunky, but when you do get past that, boy, be prepared for some tough puzzles. This game is first a puzzle game and an RPG second. The story is still great and the NPC's interesting and get more and more bizzarre the further you go, but at the core you focus on solving the riddles. The game is very long and no two levels are the same. I suggest you do take a spellcaster, as magic is well made and allows you to do neat tricks along the way. There are some subtle hints that may be easy to miss, so I recommend saving often and having a walktrough handy. All in all, if you like tricky puzzles and some epic fantasy romp, then this game is for you.
