Anachronox

I bought this game on a whim, never played it back in the day when it came out, actually, not really having heard of it before. I trusted the score and the reviews here on GoG and oooh boy am I glad i did. This game, with all the flaws that other reviews point out- which are definately there - still it's a masterpiece. Yes it's janky, yes gameplay it's outdated, yes combat can get boring (like any oldschool jrpg though, I might say), yes is kinda incomplete, but all in all this game is still head above shoulders many new AAA titles, because it has a soul. If you are familiar with "classic" jrpg and dont' mind them, absolutely buy this gem.

I objectively don't think this game is all that good at anything but for some reason I don't want to put it down. The pacing, storytelling, and dialogue isn't the best but it has it's charm. If you like old school turn-based RPGs it's worth a shot, especially if you catch it on a good discount.

I played Anachronox when it was brand new. And then I played it 5 or so years later, heavily modded to deal with things like quad core processors and other tech evolutions. And here I am nearly 30 years later, on my fifth or sixth play through. Snappy dialog, fun characters, neat environments. If you can sit through the endless elevator ride cut scenes and other relics of this era, you will love it.

Great characters, great plot, great music, great cinematics and so on. It's a very good game, with one big flaw. There is a cliffhanger, and there will never be a sequel.

GET this. Life FFVII , but funnier. Everyone has said everything else. Worth the $$$.
