Description
NEW ENHANCED EDITION
Among the Sleep is an award winning first person horror adventure in which you play a small child searching for your mother after ominous sounds wake you up in the middle of a night.

The enhanced edition of Among the Sleep contains improved visuals, digital art book and soundtrack integrated in the game, selectable pyjamas, enhanced puzzles and gameplay, new dialogue and a brand new museum level where you get to explore behind the scenes and experience never before seen footage and concepts cut from the released game.

Among the Sleep is a first person horror adventure, in which you play as a two year old child. After waking up in the middle of the night to mysterious sounds, you start a journey in the dark looking for your mother.

The game lets you experience the horror felt by a child when familiar and friendly surroundings are transformed into something sinister. While wandering around in surrealistic environments, you have only your teddy bear as a companion. There might be threats hiding in every shadow, but there’s no traditional combat. Instead, you will actively have to find places to hide and avoid confrontation in order to survive. In Among the Sleep you’re vulnerable, scared, and trying to make sense of the world. Dark things will happen. How will you find comfort?
  • The perspective of a two year old child. You’re small, vulnerable and helpless. But you can also crawl into small places to hide. Seeing your own hands crawling frantically under the couch makes you feel even more fragile.

  • Focused on story, not cheap scares. Merging a child’s perception of reality with its wild imagination, lets you unravel what is actually causing your own fear and confusion.

Survival horror for ages 2 and up

Now here‘s a Kickstarter project that puts the crowd-funded work of many a seasoned developer to shame: A fantastic game, developed on a shoestring budget by a young, dedicated and extremely talented team. You'll be put in the shoes (well, the romper suit, actually) of a 2 year old toddler who wakes up in the middle of the night to find his teddy bear missing. Once the comforting companion has been tracked down, the two unlikely heroes have to make their way through their nightmarishly distorted home, only to find themselves trapped in surreal dreamscapes, which can only be escaped by unlocking suppressed memories. Soon enough, very real horrors start seeping into this fairy tale world of the subconcious. „Among the Sleep" truly is a masterpiece of interactive storytelling. With compelling visuals that would do Lewis Carroll proud, accompanied by truly fantastic sound design, Krillbyte have created an eerie work of art both terrific and terrifying. Even though this is a very short game that should not take you more than four hours to finish, I urge you to get this. Gaming experiences this intense and imaginative are hard to come by. Keep an eye out for this talented young studio! With their amazing debut they have proven themselves masters of the medium and one has to wonder what they will accomplish on a less constricting budget.

Entertaining, but not much substance

While the game has some creepy visuals and very atmospheric environments, that's about all there is. The gameplay is nothing special, almost entirely walking and climbing, with very limited and obvious use of items as keys. It's not very scary and seemed to quickly abandon the concept of playing a vulnerable two year old, making you do things like operate machinery, jump from high ledges, and weigh down a see-saw so you can use it as a ramp, things far beyond a toddler's abilities. Even if it's mostly taking place in an imaginary world, it broke suspension of disbelief a bit too much, and it just felt like you were playing a very short adult sometimes. The plot is serviceable, but rather predictable after only a couple levels, and the conclusion gives you the distinct feeling that the makers of the game thought they were delivering a huge, emotional, dramatic surprise when that's just not the case. The game has been criticized for being too short, but I feel that it's just the right length- any longer and it would have grown tiresome and repetitive. The best thing about the game are the atmospheric environments, which really are quite beautiful and disturbing, but there just isn't enough substance there to support a full-length game, so they were wise to quit while they were ahead. It's entertaining enough to play through once, but I would recommend waiting until it's on sale.

May cause Motion Sickness

I want to give this 5 stars, but I can't. For players like myself this game will cause extreme motion sickness due to the first person wobbling as you walk movements. It unfortunately makes the game unplayable and is one of the only 2 games I have purchased from gog that I regret buying. I was only able to make it to chapter 2. Other than that the game is well done and is special in that it helps to recapture the viewpoints and common fears of a 2 year old. The voice acting is good too and eerie in a good way.

Driven by atmosphere, not jump scares

This game was quite the experience. Running at about 5 hours, it is rather short, so it's hard to recommend at $20 - $10-$15, I would easily recommend it. Nevertheless, it's an experience you won't forget. I will say I recommend it much more to parents with small children than to the younger audience. The sound is amazing, the atmosphere is chilling, the puzzles are decent, and the sets are gorgeous. Teddy is an excellent plot device that drives the player forward and the "enemy" is pretty terrifying, especially if you consider that you are suppose to be a 2-year-old. The only cons I could find with it is some of the polys/textures could have been better done considering how close you are to the ground at all times and also it could be frustrating to find your way back to the starting point after completing an objective. 4/5 - a great experience, but for 5 hours of gameplay with no replayability, needs to be cheaper. SPOILERS AHEAD! Whether this is commentary on how women tend to get child custody even when not fit is an interesting thought. Teddy is the child's only friend which was a present from the father. The mother is the nightmare that is chasing him in his dreams and she is seen at the bottom of a bottle at the end. Then the father comes to save the day and the game ends. Now telling your two-year-old you don't want to get angry and enough is enough and then being depressed and drinking doesn't automatically make a bad parent. She is struggling, as do most parents (myself included). But once again, we have to look at this through the eyes of a 2-year-old. If Daddy is always nice and Mommy struggles to raise the child, of course the Dad will look better, even if it's the mother who has primary custody and all the responsibility. I feel like this game invoked a lot of thought with the ending and I know personally, it made me re-examine the way my toddler and baby perceive me on the days that are harder to be a good parent.
