Description
NEW ENHANCED EDITION
Among the Sleep is an award winning first person horror adventure in which you play a small child searching for your mother after ominous sounds wake you up in the middle of a night.

The enhanced edition of Among the Sleep contains improved visuals, digital art book and soundtrack integrated in the game, selectable pyjamas, enhanced puzzles and gameplay, new dialogue and a brand new museum level where you get to explore behind the scenes and experience never before seen footage and concepts cut from the released game.

Among the Sleep is a first person horror adventure, in which you play as a two year old child. After waking up in the middle of the night to mysterious sounds, you start a journey in the dark looking for your mother.

The game lets you experience the horror felt by a child when familiar and friendly surroundings are transformed into something sinister. While wandering around in surrealistic environments, you have only your teddy bear as a companion. There might be threats hiding in every shadow, but there’s no traditional combat. Instead, you will actively have to find places to hide and avoid confrontation in order to survive. In Among the Sleep you’re vulnerable, scared, and trying to make sense of the world. Dark things will happen. How will you find comfort?
  • The perspective of a two year old child. You’re small, vulnerable and helpless. But you can also crawl into small places to hide. Seeing your own hands crawling frantically under the couch makes you feel even more fragile.
  • Focused on story, not cheap scares. Merging a child’s perception of reality with its wild imagination, lets you unravel what is actually causing your own fear and confusion.

A 2-year-old tries to make sense madness

Play Time: 5-6 Hours (completed) Gameplay: Light Adventure / Horror / Walking Simulator. You play as a toddler, so in that sense you are limited to what a toddler might be able to do. Most interaction involves picking things up, climbing to get to a higher position or dragging things so you can get to a higher position. You can crawl, toddle, or toddle / run in this game. You can also hold Teddy. Even the darkness fears Teddy. Graphics: First person, Pretty good, almost seems like this was meant for VR at some point. Does a good job of portraying the chaotic mix of dreams and memory.. the way a dreaming child might remember things. Sound: Good. Communicates the spooky pretty well. Control: Good, for the most part. There is some wonkiness when it comes to seeing where your character is especially when you are looking down or holding the teddy bear. Story: Young child, or someone older remembering a traumatic child hood event, wakes to find that that their house has been taking over by something that seems to want to do them harm for some unknow reason. The player must guide the child through a world that has been become twisted between memory and reality in order to find the truth of the child's strange trip into dream land. My Thoughts: This game isn't what I though it was. It started out as what I thought it was apparently but the developers switched it up at some point and it took me awhile to get to it. So it goes. None the less, while this is not a Soma or Amnesia it's still a decent Light Adventure / Walking Simulator game more in the vein of Gone Home / The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter. The story doesn't spell itself out until the end but I imagine that most people will "get it" relatively early. The presentation was interesting enough for me to play through to see how it ended. So if you are looking for a decent story to play through give this one a look.

Original concept, flawed execution

An original concept with mediocre execution leaves too much potential on the table. Pros: - Moments of excellent tension and terror in the last half of the game - Playing through the eyes of a toddler leaves the player feeling accurately helpless, heightening the tension - Interesting art style, capturing what the world is like through a child's eyes - Intriguing, if shallow, story Cons: - 2 hour run time - The first half of the game lack a sense of danger, with multiple crescendos and eery sound effects building to nothing. I began to get bored before the terror finally began - Controls feel clunkly, moving objects can be frustratingly difficult - Occasionally buggy AI Overall a decent horror experience worth picking up at a deep sale price (under $5, certainly). Unique idea. flawed execution

Atmospheric Story Driven Horror?

It's not really what most horror game aficionados may be looking for. There is no blood and gore, not really any jump scares, instead the game successfully conveys a feeling of helplessness, in a confusing word too big for you. I've played this game a couple of times, and here I am writing this review as I download it again.

Amazing game and a little gem!

+ Really immersive + Important emotional lore topic + Rweliable characters + Awesome atmosphere, sound effects and music + A few jumpscares, but the game is more about a creepy atmosphere (and i like that rather then jumpscares) - Interacting with left-mouse-button is not so intuitive as it want to be - Pretty short, but worth playing again (espacially for a bonus that you can get by collecting something) @devs, please fix the following: - Some graphical bugs (but it could be my old card) - Missing hitboxes/alphawalls: I onced glitched through the ground (level with the shadow that is triggered by breaking bottles) - Wrong hitboxes? You cant crawl under some furnitures, that have the same hight and space below them like others where you can hide (really few but they exist)

Abandons everything 20 minutes in...

Another in the long line of indie horror games that never gets going, has an interesting concept that's quickly abandoned with left-field developments, all filled out with a clichéd and predictable plot. For the horror aspect, well it's best to say: even I wasn't scared by this game. I don't play many horror games, I'm easily scared by their shenanigans, but this one never really tried. It was certainly unsettling, but that's only down to you and how long it takes you to realise you can run around and make as much noise as you like when no demons come out to get you. The concept seemed to be that you're roaming a hunted house or being attacked by demons, but with the killer twist that you're just a baby. This concept is explored for all of 20 minutes, after which you enter alternate worlds (the classic MC Escher-inspired linear platforming, toddler style). It doesn't help that you'll likely guess the ending and major plot points in the first 10 minutes. The characters say or do a couple of things at the start which appear to be hinting and foreshadowing, only for it to turn out they were just saying random crap you shouldn't have analysed. This feels like a 3-hour concept video or game a developer would show publishers to get them to invest and publish a hypothetical full game. It's tempting to recommend this just for the potential it has even though it never used it. Instead it's another game that's best right at the start, then they go "I guess we better put some generic gameplay crap in there so it's a game" and it's done. P.S. It should also be noted that this is a Kickstarter game, and the backers who donated $150+ and qualified for rewards haven't received them. Another reason to not recommend this game.
