The year is 1899
Wealthy industrialist Oswald Mandus awakes in his bed, wracked with fever and haunted by dreams
of a dark and hellish engine. Tortured by visions of a disastrous expedition to Mexico, broken on the
failing dreams of an industrial utopia, wracked with guilt and tropical disease, he wakes into a
nightmare. The house is silent, the ground beneath him shaking at the will of some infernal machine:
all he knows is that his children are in grave peril, and it is up to him to save them.

A Machine for Pigs takes both the world of Amnesia and the technology of The Dark Descent to new
heights of horror. Built using an updated version of HPL2 engine, the game features stunning visual
and environment design, incredible music and audio effects and adapted artificial intelligence. These
are all driven by a gut-wrenching, blood-curdling new story, set sixty years after the events of the
original game.

Graphics: 7/10. This game has better graphics than The Dark Descent.
Sounds: 9/10. It contributes a lot to the atmosphere of the game.
Gameplay: 8/10. This game lacks the inventory system and the sanity meter from the first game.
Horror: 10/10.
For me, at least, this game was much scarier than the first Amnesia title. While The Dark Descent had its horror highlights mostly in the first half of the game and got less horrifying towards the end, A Machine for Pigs starts out slowly in the first half and then cranks up the horror as you proceed. I also very much liked the industrial setting, which I found to be more threatening than the old castle. It does have a very different feel to it, compared to the first one, mostly due to having less focus on item-based puzzles - personally, I didn't miss them, but depending on what aspects you liked in the first Amnesia and Penumbra, you may feel different. Only negative point for me is the extremely linear level design, which makes the experience feel rather artificial at times. -1 star for that.
I'm sure a lot of people were excited for the next installment and the past years updates and releases looked good, but the final product is horrible. You can complete it in 2 hours 55 minutes without speed running, and that's even finding all the notes and reading them. The description is laughable.

That is the biggest flat out lie I've ever seen. The story is one of the most boring I've encountered and is as clear as five pounds of dog feces. You do nothing, you walk and walk maybe pull down a lever or turn a valve then walk and walk and walk. You do not have a choice at all to explore because 98% of every door, window, and cabinet is locked. You can't even pick up 99% of objects. The graphics are awful, the voice acting is mediocre at best and never again will Frictional Games see any money from me. How dumb are they that they thought The Chinese Room was going to make this good? There is no forgiveness and no excuse.
