Alpha Protocol

I played it on the day of the release. Even though it has it's issues the amount of choices and different outcomes is insane. It's good to see it back and maybe, just maybe, someone will make a true spiritual successor to it and go even further with the premise of playing an agent, who can use different methods to achieve set goals. Anyway I don't know how you did it but thanks GoG for bringing back this forgottten gem that is Alpha Protocol!

I wish I could give it a 4 1/2 for it does have problems, but many upsides. The story and interactions is well tuned to any kind of spy thriller story, and the RPG elements are well diverse enough to support them. You want to play as James Bond, you can do that. You want to play as Jason Bourne, you can do that. You want to play as John Matrix, you can do that. Yes it does have the stiff presentation akin of the 360 era, with things lying around like intel and weapon mods just yours for the taking or popping out of enemies when they are defeated, and the movement is a tad clunky especially if your using keyboard and mouse, and it's just one guy with the same voice unto which you can only change his clothes, beard, skin color, and eyes. But it also has great voice acting, not terribly deep conversation system but still has a timer so they still give choices importance, and if your a completionist type it pays you more because you can open up more dialogue options the more you find out about the organizations or people involved with them. Having said that. The game is based on a checkpoint system, that's where all of your saves are going to go; on the one hand it's good you can't go back to a choice you made a while ago, on the other only 2 saves for your whole game. Also you only can work with one character at a time, you cannot make multisaves on different playthroughs, the checkpoints will be overwritten, so you'll have to stick with the one Michael Thorton you make. So, yeah, want a SPY simulator game? Give this a shot.

Some of the best dialogue I've seen in video games. Alpha Protocol is peak Obsidian jank. The game feels like they were rushed through development. The controls aren't great, and that's being kind. The gunplay is fully crystalised jank. The stealth is jank. The movement is jank. It's just full of jank. But the game itself is worth playing. Brilliant dialogue options and a fantastic RPG with a really thrilling story. As I said, very rough around the edges, but I'm very thankful GOG acquired the license so I can finally play it after being put off by reviews 10+ years ago. If you like spy thrillers and RPG with strong dialogue then pick it up. Be aware it takes a little getting used to the janky aspects. 5/5 for me personally.

This came out 5 months before New Vegas from what i can remember and well the reception was mixed. With that being said I'm glad GOG somehow managed to preserve and make it available again, this one sadly passed me by during the 360/PS3 era but like VMB gained a cult following and after playing through it multiple times i can honestly tell you this is an underrated diamond. Honestly, this game feels like a peak Bioware game, with an Obsidian spin and so much B movie energy! Buy this game, It's honestly the closest thing to a Bond Mass effect your going to get.

I played this game on 360 and back in the days and loved it. In the last few years i was feeling nostalgic of it and coundt play it anywhere. The only way i find to make this work was to buy an used retail copy. put all the files on a usb, download the patch on a shady forum and it work. i was still playing it a few months back. I bought it again just to support DRM free games . THX GOG
