When the wife of the best-selling writer Alan Wake disappears on their vacation, his search turns up pages from a thriller he doesn’t even remember writing. A Dark Presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save his love.
Presented in the style of a TV series, Alan Wake features the trademark Remedy storytelling and pulse-pounding action sequences. As players dive deeper and deeper into the mystery, they’ll face overwhelming odds, plot twists, and cliffhangers. It’s only by mastering the Fight With Light combat mechanic that they can stay one step ahead of the darkness that spreads across Bright Falls, in this psychological action thriller.
With the body of an action game and the mind of a psychological thriller, Alan Wake’s intense atmosphere, deep and multi-layered story, moments of sudden horror, and exceptionally tense combat sequences provide players with an entertaining and original gaming experience.
Includes Alan Wake Special Episodes “The Signal” and “The Writer”.

They tried to make turn a visual novel into an action game.
The Setting and the atmosphere of the game is nice.
When it comes to combat it gets so tedious. The lamp mechanic is as annoying as in the Galadriel DLC of Shadow of War.
Your MC can't even sprint to save his life.
After the first episode, I found killing the taken mostly useless because of the respawn. For most of the game I ended up just running past them and dodging to the nearest light source which also acts as a savepoint. I say mostly because the game does force you to kill some enemies by having a mini horde mode or boss mode in order to advance. These sections were more frustrating than anything else, especially since at this point in time all I cared about was the story (because the gameplay was lackluster). This is even more apparent with the two included DLCs. It even becomes laughable at times where I would run a couple of feet, with 10 guys chasing behind me, to the next light source, which would immediately kill all the enemies. The story is average at best. The DLC isn't even needed. It felt rushed especially how they ignored and pretend certain parts of the story isn't important (hello Mr. Scratch). I would not recommend this game at $30.
The is the most repetitive and uninspired game I have ever played. If you have read a book ever, you will be able to spot about one cliche every 30 seconds.
I love this game's atmosphere, the small town in the middle of a forest with all these super friendly people, I love it. Too bad the actual game is kinda bad, with very little enemy variety or variety in the ways you actually fight the enemies. This is like if RE4 only had the ganados and mainly took place in empty rooms with fewer available weapons, it's still fun, but just lacking. The story was engaging if very hard to follow.
The game did delete all my collectibles and my previous levels, which was a big issue since the collectibles are a huge part of the plot. I could keep playing from my previous save but I couldn't replay old levels or look at the old parts of the story through the manuscript.
This game also has shameless product placement from verizon, going so far as to give you an achievement for watching verizon advertisements in game. That's shitty on it's own but when the combat feels lacking, the game glitched out and deleted a bunch of my save info and the game is still going for 15 bucks 10 years later, I can't really say the game is worth it. I'd recommend deadly premonition, that game is far more interestingly weird with a similar feeling atmosphere, it has a more easily followed story and isn't trying to shill for a cell phone company.
Bad: allows not to save free
Bad: only one savegame
Bad: Starting "New game" kills the one and only savegame, so "New game" = "Begin new"
Bad: alltime console flair
