A tasteful balance
I realy like the genre and the deeper gameplay including diplomacy, more resourses etc. Creating your own faction is genius :)

A fantastic game, major broken features
To start the game is great. The mechanics to customize factions, lords, worlds is all really fun and the game is super approachable compared to most 4x games thanks to the easily accessible info when playing. It's definitely a game that inspires that "One more turn" kind of feeling. However the huge issue with the game is it's obscured data and broken cloud save functionality. You will put in many hours customizing your heroes and factions, playing long games with them and unlocking the meta progression of the Pantheon system for cool unlocks. All of this gets thrown out the window if you try to install the game on a new pc. Some of the data is supposedly locked to cloud saves but with this system being broken you can't retrieve it. You can try to manually transfer your save files, however that actually also doesn't always work because some of the data is either hidden away or the game just doesn't always recognize it. If the data was more transparent and didn't rely on this broken cloud save feature I could easily give it 5 stars, hell I'd give it more than that, but until this is fixed just pass on this game unless you're okay with potentially losing all your time invested in playing this game.

Ridiculously Good
A dense pack-a-punch of mechanics, Age of Wonders 4 delivers way more than one would assume necessary for a game of this variety in all the right ways. Taking the genre combination of Civilization + X-COM and loading it with an absurd excess of additional mechanics. I really wouldn't expect such a robust character creator in a 4X game of all things, but AOW4's has easily surpassed some CRPGs in my experience. There is difficulty in distilling the variety, so a slice of my experience I will give: "Lighting shaman eugenicist frog people riding skeletal horses taking over the world." If I were to include the DLCs, there would be so much more, making for a game so easy to roleplay factions with.
