Terrible Arcady Single-Player Experience

In short: an arcade-realistic off-road racer with tons of unresolved technical issues and single-player content mostly catering to autists and the people with masochistic tendencies. The "progress" in the game is all about unlocking new cars solely for the sake of unlocking things. There is nothing there to keep you playing. Even when you win, it is often because of good RNG and not because you were particularly good. The game modes are rather silly. Run through generic checkpoint ports. Yeah, it has the Superman 64 style content design. Not very good. Not good at all. It is fun for the five seconds until you realize you cannot stop flipping over and wrecking your car unless you memorize the flat, relatively speeding-safe segments of every single huge map AND drive like an old lady. Driving safe and slow is not really why you buy these games. I recall Monster Truck Madness games were much less fuzzy and more fun games of this genre. +Slightly above-average synth music +Big maps -Invisibile, often non-shaded bumps that will send the supposedly-heavy 4x4 car flying high -You cannot steer with any speed without flipping over -The handling is rubbish, though you have infinite grip as long as you do not steer. -You roll downhill even when braking. -Typical Codemasters steep difficulty curve with the first two sets being somewhat easy and the later three being about unfun map-topography-memorization, manipulating the AI and blind luck, instead, of skill or intent to win. -Breaks if you try to ALT+TAB out of the game. If you do, the game hangs in a way that forces an OS restart as it blocks the screen until it is shutdown. -Very brittle hardware support. If you try to hook the garbage DirectX implementation, it will not find the 3D renderer anymore. Probably did not work back then either. -Rescue i.e. flip-recovery warp is super-slow and unreliable. -Just a couple mistakes usually mean you cannot win the race and wasted your time.

Brings back memories!

I remember playing the game with my friends when i was young. We had so many great times with the crashing in the game. The handling of the cars is the best any driving game has to offer. You'll have so much fun playing this. GET THIS GAME!

1nsane

This game means my entere childhood, even in 2022 is the most funny game ever, for those times this physics was absolutlelly a blast, and now there aren't games whit this quality. For sure one of my Old but gold games whit love.

Sanity veins into dust...

The first time I played Insane was a long long time ago. But I still remember it clearly. Although it is an old game, it is really a good old game. There are a few reasons for that ofcourse: Insane is not a complicated racing game. It doesn't keep you cracking your brains about tiny-little modifications of your vehicle or you don't bother yourself much with the weather conditions, the type of the racing course etc. It does not mean, the game is about a surreal world or something but it just keeps the fun and fact in balance when it comes to the dynamics of driving. So you have the fun of "just hit the gas!" kind of feeling. And it still continues to be fun since it uses the racing courses' physical qualities. It diverts the race course according to what type of race U R playing. If you choose a typical race, it presents you with that very special angle of curves that all the race depends on getting through them efficiently or if you are in capture the flag mode you feel like a motorized gladiator clashing and manouvering for the ultimate goal. Its simplicity is the grounds that this game is fantastic. But at the same time it gives you many opportunities (like LAN game and exciting race modes) to enrich your gamig experience to it's maximum. This game is truely a classic and worths every penny and hour you spend. Go get insane...

very refreshing

Let's put it simply: I wouldn't know any racing game of the past 13 years that deserves it more to be in ones collection, then 1nsane. It is refreshingly different, it is pure fun, it is way open to all types of experiments - and despite all this it can offer a challenge: Driving (and not bouncing, rolling or crawling) fast over complex terrain requires quite some skill, or the excellent damage model will put your rear axle in front of your windshield. (And then the "fun" part will keep you and your friends trying to get the still moveable wreck up the cliff another time and another time to see how much further it can be compressed :-D) Only 4 stars though because the szenarios are not very diverse and if you do not want to drive a stock car challenge (it is perfectly feasible to win a race by being the only one alive!), there is also no reason to use most of the heavier vehicles on offer. Therefore 1nsane tends to get repetitive after 1-2 hours. Just to be played the next week again. And the next month. Year after year ;-)
