How to solve graphic issues

1sane is my favourite LAN game. Years ago I played it on 4 chunky PC connected to a HUB with tons of wires on the table. Nowadays you can play with Wifi laptops, but the joy remains the same: you don't want to be the first, you are racing only for fun… And the best fun are running into the players. Try the Irish party and enjoy! This is a game for older computers, but there is a trick to keep working on latest graphics card: 1. Search and download "dgVoodoo 2" (or use this link if still works) http://www.dege.freeweb.hu/ 2. Unzip and copy all the files to your 1sane folder. 3. Run "dgVoodooSetup.exe" 5. Play with settings. I check only the box "Keep window aspect ratio" 6. In the "DirectX" tab there is "dgVoodoo Watermark". This is for debug purpose, so you can know if the game is using Glide or DirectX and know in wich tab you must change your settings later. The game is DirectX so you can play with settings in this tab. 7. Click OK. Test 1sane, and eventually play with settings in appropriate tab. Happy 1saning!!!

One of the greatest driving games

Insane has a place in my heart alongside Stunts and Gran Turismo (1) as one of The Great Car Games. There is quite nothing like it. Awesome physics combined with total freedom to go anywhere you want, fun game modes in both single and multiplayer... But most importantly driving feels very good and fun! Don't be fooled to think usual arcade physics since it's not quite a simulator; every vehicle has mass and behave very life-likely. Driving through uneven landscape feels realistic, and you have to think about your vehicle's center of gravity to keep it balanced on the rough surface. Add to that the game's dynamic damage modelling and you're into some serious fun! Vehicles can be twisted and battered beyond recognition, falling from high cliffs or just smashing each other, even landing a jump improperly does something to them. Single player is fun, but multiplayer is what Insane was made for. LAN games are insanely fun, and there are still some people playing it online with Gamespy. Recommended to anyone looking for a fun driving game!

A flawed but endearing game

I bought 1NSANE back when it was first released. I still don't get the name, but I had a lot of fun with it. When I found it on sale, I immediately snatched it up. Coming back to the game was an eye-opener. While it's got some issues that I don't remember from back then, it's still a worthy purchase for the right person. The game was very advanced for its time. I'm a racing game junkie and when I see Codemasters on the box, I buy. This didn't disappoint back then, and it's surprisingly good today. It's sparse graphically, but it works here. There's also support for 1920x1080 resolution, which shocked me. The game engine is apparently more scalable than I assumed. Two main problems with it: controls and hysics. Controls are good for the era: I'm playing with an Xbox One controller and while quirks abound and need to be addressed, it's possible to make the game control well enough. The main problem is that some weird defaults seem to exist, so the left thumb stick LR axis functions as up and down. Be warned, you absolutely need analog controls for at least the throttle, if not the steering as well. Even with analog the steering works in digital steps, and adjusting the One controller to this isn't easy thanks to the settings given. It's possible but it takes some experimenting. The physics are realistic, but punishingly so. The vehicles seem to flip over and spin out far too easily. The flip side of this is that your opponents often struggle with the same thing. Again, you need a light touch on the throttle and steering to combat this. But when you figure it out and everything works perfectly, the joy of winning is immense. The game progression is lacking though and doesn't give much reason to push forward, I could probably go on about this game for at least another thousand characters, but GOG has a limit, so I've trimmed it down. It's very much still a good game, I didn't even get into damage or vehicle models, if you're a fan of racing games, buy it cheap.

Once you get used to you get hooked :)

It takes a little time to get the grip on this one, but once you're hooked ... well, you're hooked :) Especially fun with some friend. Nice physics for a game of that age, which delivers most of the fun this game has to offer. Safe buy if you like the genre at all.

Fun distraction, lacks depth

My only experience with this game prior to purchasing it on GOG was playing the demo from a 2001 PC Gamer magazine demo disc. Recalling its ahead-of-the-time physics, I decided to buy it and try it out. I have not tried multiplayer, but I imagine it would be fun to play the 'Destruction' mode against other humans. Pros: - There are a variety of gameplay modes. - Wide-open levels (larger than most games of its time). - Amazing physics (again, considering the time of release). Cons: - Singleplayer is quite shallow. - The computer AI is really simple and easy to defeat. They often get stuck and remain motionless for the duration of the round. - Music is extremely annoying.
