Ahh MechWarrior, truly the first game love of my life. I loved how you could ignore the story and just play with giant mechs. But playing the story was awesome since you had to actually measure time passing. Most games today allow you to play side quests and just wander about while an 'urgent' mission from the main story waits for you to get around to it. Not here, you were punished for monkeying around. Plus you could earn money by buying mechs cheap on one planet and selling for a profit on another planet. You just had to find the right planets! So replayable, so beautiful (at the time), the sounds and music was so memorable (you have to hear the AC, the sound effect was so unique!), it was a perfect game. But boy was it slow when you got the assault mech (Battlemaster all the way!). I would set the direction I wanted to walk and then go have breakfast. It was about a half hour in real time before I needed to actually do anything, so I could also watch cartoons on Sat morning. What a great time to be a kid!
