Max Payne was dark, Max Payne 2 was darker! An aged Max Payne in search to discover who's a friend and who's a foe. In a town sunken in the darkness Max is the only one that could save the day! Truly a good old game!

It was time for school but... I really wanted to play Max Payne 2! The good old days on an old Compaq PC, when you could pop a CD in and play a game without internet (we didn't have internet at the time, 2004-5.) The story didn't make much sense to my young mind back then, but the gameplay was so fluid, meaty and fun! I spent countless hours saving the game before big battles, replaying them over and over again just to try and get the kills in the coolest way. I'd save just before big falls, and throw my character off ledges just to see the ragdoll effects and try to get the coolest "landing". I remember buying the strategy guide book because I got lost a few times. And what about that goofy ahh dude with the mascot suit, remember that! Hah I hated that mission as a kid! This was the kind of game that you'll come back to play every couple of years, and it never gets old.

Never been this angry about a character dying in a game or movie as with Max Payne 2. It is a must play, and must play on hard to unlock non-canon happy ending :P

Loved the game; it holds a special place in my heart. It was technologically the best Max Payne of the series and deserves a place in gaming history, but... I did quit the series after it and swore off ever purchasing another Max Payne title ever again. In my opinion, the game was guilty of doing what Mass Effect did. After all the hours of effort to make the ending turn out the way you want, the way you literally worked for hours to have it end, agency is arrested from the player and they're forced to watch helplessly as the game rails in the ending (Sam Lake, if you happen to be reading this, it is my opinion that this could have been your masterpiece). Several characters of this game could have spun off in all directions, getting games of their own then eventually crossing paths with Max again. But that was not to be; your short-sightedness killed it.
Is it possible for this Max Payne 1 and 2 game to be free?//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I played Max Payne 2 before ever trying the first game, so for me, Max Payne 2 is the better one. Though many fans would argue that the first game is more canonical, darker, more atmospheric true noir. And of course, it has Sam Lake’s iconic face. The game left a huge impression on me, and I should mention that this was during the time when The Matrix was insanely popular. I’m not sure if there’s even a point in describing the game, most people already know it. But here’s something interesting. One year, on December 31st, right before New Year’s Eve, I don’t remember the exact year, but that doesn’t matter I played through Max Payne 2 multiple times in a row. Beating the game unlocked a higher difficulty, so I kept going until I reached the hardest mode… and then I finished it again. All in a single day, on December 31st. I know a lot of people have a tradition of playing the first Max Payne on New Year’s Eve. But for me, it was always the second game. P.S. I have to say, I absolutely love the game’s music and sound effects. Pure genius! Listen to Max’s Choice – Duty vs. Passion. Gives me chills every time.
i remember playing max payne 2 as kid was such nice noir story and i remember playing nightmare levels was so scary it used to give me chills and the ending was so cool i wish it released on mobiles so we can live our childhood again one of the best Rockstar game

This may be a hot take of mine, but this game had a better story than it's predecessor, although the gameplay wasn't nearly as good. It shares the same issues with Max Payne 1: not available to buy in certain countries and unplayable without the use of unofficial patches. Please GOG, bring this gem back to it's full glory.

I am shocked that this doesn't have the same number of votes as Max Payne 1! You gotta have both! For as foundational as Max Payne was for Remedy, they mastered the formula with Max Payne 2, the tweaks to the engine and switch to Havok for physics was masterful. The gunplay compared to 1 is phenomenal and so satisfying. The music, just everything about 2 is a straight upgrade from 1, and 1 was already pretty great! I think the only real downside compared to 1 is the story kind of falls apart at the end, overall it's good but the madhouse aspect doesn't hold a candle to the Norse mythology angle that the first had. No game is perfect, but Max Payne 2 is pretty high up there
Those games also need your vote!
