The title music on the ST version was my introduction to Jean-Michel Jarre; it was wild when I finally heard the full track which this game's tune was based upon. Love flying over the fractal landscapes, and ideographic communication system was way ahead of its time. And how many games can you name which have a diagetic mouse cursor? I will definitely pick this game up if it becomes available

i got into captain blood after finding commander blood, a 1994 game in the series, was so weird and fun! odd mechanics but addicting. I played it through a few times and now i've got a hankering to go back or find the best version for any system.
Amazing game--the mechanics were very, very different, and still are, if I am being honest. You had to use pictograms with the alien specie to communicate, and not all species understood/accepted all pictos. They could also be liars, so all that time and work to get info from them lead you to a dead end (sometimes literally). They were all procedurally generated planets you had to navigate to land before you could even talk to the aliens. Good luck trying to find any to talk to randomly. IIRC, there were like tens of thousands of planets, one at each set of coordinates. Luckily they started you off on an inhabited planet but it could be a different one each playthrough. My brother and I played this extensively, but I don't think either one of us ever finished the whole thing, as there was definitely a time component--you were in the process of deteriorating and needed to find and absorb your clones. I want another stab at it after all these decades.
This is one of the most underrated and way ahead of its time Games ever released on the 8 bit and 16 bit Homecomputers of the 80s. It was so radically ahead of its time regarding the whole gameplay and visual presentation, you can still play it today and feel some of the vibe it must have had during its release. I personally only ever played it on the Commodore 64 (i still have my Cassette retail copy of it and it is an amazing port) but i saw the Amiga 500 and Atari ST versions and was blown away by how much better these versions were. ESPECIALLY the whole sound. The way you could talk to all the different alien creatures you encounter using the basic symbol language, after flying a probe down on the planets and flying through a vector graphics environment... this game really tried so much at once and you could even destroy planets if an alien race asked you to (or even if they didn'task you to ;) ). The Music by Jean-Michel Jarre used parts of "Ethnicolor" from his 1984 Album "Zoolook" and it really only shines on the Atari ST and Amiga version due to the use of sampling. And it's insane what they pulled off this way. The universe in this game is also HUGE and keeps you busy for many years. It's kinda like in No Man's Sky where you can jump from one system to another and explore what nobody else had explored yet. And i am pretty sure Hello Games got their inspiration from this game too one way or another. At least some parts of it. SO yeah, Captain Blood definitely deserves to be preserved and being played. It aged amazingly well.

This game was and still is a masterpiece. It's a "Picasso" of the video games. An original and surreal sci-fi adventure, beyond of its time (1988). The playability was a headache, but challenging and enjoyable. The music, sounds and voices keep the player in a immersive strange ambient of the game. This game was "The Most Beautiful Game of 1988" with the shiny blueish alien aesthetics (imagine a less dark and glooming, and more lighter version of "Scorn"). The original concept and playability of this game, still unique till this days (remember, this game was from the same french minds that later created "Another World / Out Of This World" ). A modern remake or remaster would be very welcome and saving the original game (from Atari ST or Amiga) too.
Those games also need your vote!

Freelancer
FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.

Black & White 2
Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.
