Zoom around and pew pew

This seems as if it had games like Wing Commander and Privateer at it's center point of its creation. Using the Thrustmaster 1600t Flight Pack and everything works great except for the Throttle, but that seems to be a design flaw as every person who uses the same throttle as mine, can't get it to be a throttle. (i think its a space/air break). Key mapping isn't a problem except if you wanna map keyboard commands while using a stick. You have to nudge your mouse, then it goes into keyboard and mouse mode, then your keyboard commands work great. I tried programming keyboard commands while in stick configuration and they don't register. So, you gotta get a bit inventive if buttons are limited, but theres also a retical menue you can pull up, as well as pull up a map so you get an overview of the battle. This also works as your pause so you can plan things out, or take a break. So it seems to facilitate to lack of buttons while only in stick mode. So far, paied full price and not regretting it. Oh and you can add in your own playlist/music pretty easy to if you don't like the space western music already in, as well as it gives you the ability to use mods/plugins so you can probably compensate or improve the game already. My rating is based off native controls, not modded. So if your an old spacer like me, you'll probably enjoy this. If you expect things to just win cuz you have a new ship or think the native auto follow function will save you... :laughs in 90's dog fighting sims:

A very mixed bag, untfortunately.

Let's start out with the pros: + Totally scratches any Privateer itch you may have. It even has technophobic religious nuts, like the original. + Once you figure out which pieces of gear are important, the game is easy, at least in modes with autopursuit. + Nice soundtrack + Neat voice acting + Pre-quel to Rebel Galaxy Cons: - Buggy. Crashes on exit, crashes occasionally when changing systems. - Terrible controls, even in menus. Yes, that's probably because it was intended for controllers, but equipping your ship shouldn't be such a chore. - Mediocre graphics - Combat consists of autopursuit and knowing when to withdraw, recharge, and come back. Even the unwieldy cargo ships are nimble like Tie Fighters and the real fighters are ludicrously twitchy. - Between the super-twitchy movement and the need to aim carefully, I don't know if I could play this without autopursuit and aim assist. Maybe if you're looking for a challenge, but there are better games for that. - Whose bright idea was it to put missiles on the shift key by default?

Modern Wing Commander: Privateer

If you’ve been waiting since the old DOS game - Wing Commander: Privateer (the first one), for another game just like it, THIS is the game for you. Dust off that joystick or use a gamepad. Pure joy and nostalgia to play this! It has been such a long wait for a game of Privateer’s caliber. Forget all those other space sims with tons of menus and spreadsheets. This is an open universe game. Fly where you want, explore, make money, upgrade your ship so you can take on tougher missions. Repeat. Awesome.

Incredible fun.. but first..

If I start talking about the game from negatives you will not bother to read the game.. Game is much more fun than everspace! The cozyness of art in visuals from ships to music to bases is very much enjoyable. The dogfight is really fun with all the radio interactions where enemy swears to your own character.. she complains a lot but once you start popping up the enemies she is quite cheerful. Game is really immersive! Now the negatives: mining can be impossible to understand how it works (you need mining scanner, mining laser and you will not mine faster with more lasers, one is plenty). Then you have to wait until the damn asteroid rotates and only shoot at certain spots which you uncover by scanning. So you need to scan quite often! The missions on dogfighting are fun.. and especially easy to start resquing missions so its not you alone vs enemy. Since enemies will be busy attacking miners or space cops you can just take your time and clean out them without getting too much attention. tl;dr I believe this game gets better and better the longer you play. Once you really learn the controls then it just snowballs into amazing experience!

Could Have Been Better

I like games similar to this like freelancer. However, a lot of the game was autopilot, encounter, autopilot, encounter, autopilot, gate encounter, jump. This is rinse and repeat until you reach the location you are headed for. The story isn't my cup of tea either. I tend to like my character not being so pigeonholed into the chaotic side. It is one thing to be wrongly accused of wrong doings, but this character is destined to kill law enforcement enmasse it seems. I felt labored to finish it unfortunately. Lots of language, character never felt redeemable. The enviroment is interesting, very much western feel, which was decent. However, I didn't think this made up for it's shortcomings.
