A forgotten gem brought back

Runs flawlessly without any edits or fiddling necessary, native widescreen support, no weirdness in the key rebinding functions; a perfect port. The game itself is in my opinion critically underrated and unjustly forgotten, one of my favourite of the ps2/xbox era; it's an arcady squad-based shooter with simple yet effective controls, intricate level design with plenty of flanking routes that synergies well with the squad command aspects and side objectives that actually matters in the completion of your mission (ie, blow up a bridge to cut off reinforcements by land, making your main objective easier to achieve). Only downsides in an otherwise great game: a tad too short, "optimal routes" that somewhat inders replayability once you figure them out and slow movement speed that makes exploring somewhat tedious. All in all, a must buy if you're into squad based shooters with one of the best soundtrack in the industry.

Meisterwerk zweifellos ♥

klar gibt es kleine bugs aber die könnte man beseitigen aber ob das jemals passieren wird ich weiß es leider nicht ich würde mich freuen wenn im xbox/ps store das spiel endlich auch mal auftauchen würde :( ich hab freedom fighters schon damals geliebt die atmosphäre ist einfach einzigartig als ich das spiel im steam store gesehen habe bin ich vor freude ausgeflippt ich hätte io interactive die 100 Euro für die steam gebürhen auch selbstbezahlt nur damit sie es endlich wieder veröfflichen nun habe ich mir auch die gog edition gekauft ♥ ich bin mir sicher das ein remake das spiel vielleicht zu viel kaputt machen würde aber für ein remaster wäre echt nicht schlecht vielleicht kommt ein zweiter teil mal raus :) ich hoffe es hier poste ich mal meine steam Rezension rein It can't be a coincidence that the game will on sale is again in 2020 if the corona dictatorship continues we will have to fight for our freedom like in the game xD IO Interactive, thank you for making a masterpiece like this i wish me you remaster that game ♥ i played the game all the time in my childhood first time on gamecube and after on the ps2 ♥ I associate a great time of my life with the game I hope the Steam Workshop is ready for mods ♥ no matter what else will happen, we must never stop fighting for our freedom ♥ if we are robbed of our freedom then we are robbed of our life, because freedom is life.! ♥

Shorter and easier than I remember...

...but still great fun! While the storyline may have some awful cheese levels at times, Freedom Fighters does give great gameplay. The tactical elements are simple but effective and the multiple ways to get through different areas (along with some hidden things) keeps the game feeling fresh even after a few playthroughs. On easier settings the game is pretty short, so I do suggest trying it on the higher difficulties first time around to get the most out of it - surviving in the streets can become an epic battle.

Great game

Great game. i remember spending alot of time on this game on gamecube, when i saw it on GoG i must have been a little too quick on the purchase, since i didnt notice that there is no controller support and the multiplayer seems to have been removed. which to me is a downgrade, most of the time i spend on this game on gamecube was on multiplayer, not including that in the windows version have to cost a star, not having controller support is yet another star. would have been full rate if it wasnt for the things that got removed for the windows port of the game, since the game is amazing.

What an amazing fun action gem!

In the past I tried several times to play the german retail version of this game. Then I found the english version on gog and hooray it worked the first time! The game has a very good atmosphere and soundtrack, especially the wonderful song the battle for freedom. To fight against soviet troops in New York was a refreshing scenario. I don't need further world war II shooters, which is the main theme of comparable games. The game was optimized in having game fun with integrated tactical elements of giving orders to friendly soldiers, which adds additional atmosphere and works fine like the controls. I had problems to understand the saving points, but lastly I managed it after repeating endless mission goals, which was fun again, too. I like the cool, but simplified graphics of Manhattan and other parts of New York which remind of Max Payne 1. The game consists of pure action from beginning to the end with no boredom. It has a big variation of mission goals and arsenal of weapons. I like the winter levels. Please add more stuff like this.
