Freedom Fighters is an intense third-person action game set in an alternate history New York during the invasion of a foreign superpower. Take on the role of Chris Stone, a hard-working plumber, and rise through the ranks of the resistance to prove yourself as a charismatic leader.
Liberate supplies, scavenge weapons and use the 'recruit and command' system to grow the resistance and lead up to 12 freedom fighters into strategic conflicts throughout the campaign. Travel across the city and complete interconnected missions where your actions in one level affect the battles in another.
Originally released in 2003, IO Interactive's cult classic is now available digitally in its original form for the first time.
About the soundtrack
The Freedom Fighters Soundtrack features 18 tracks that are produced by acclaimed music composer Jesper Kyd. Combining live choir performances by the Hungarian Radio Choir with techno beats and other electronic instruments, Kyd effortlessly captures the vibe of the game and the epic quest to liberate New York from a foreign superpower.

I first played Freedom Fighters on the ol' classic PlayStation 2 console. A dang fun game. Tactical thinking, cover mechanics, fluid controls, clever enemies, and gritty atmosphere are all still here in fine form. Modest hardware requirements, as my laptop's old 256MB GPU runs it just fine and my desktop's GTX 1050 4GB burns right through it. Freedom Fighters ain't bad at $15 and even better at $10.
I haven´t had this fun in a while; the game is genuinely fun and unique.
Although it´s a third person shooter the command mechanics for the troops and the level design are very well implemented, the gameplay just feels smooth without being too overcomplicated or too linear.
The levels being easier or harder depending on how you use the sewer system is a nice touch and adds immersion, the game is also very rewarding with exploration.
I strongly recommend it
I finished this game more than 10 times now. It's extremely entertaining. Definitely a classic from EA's golden era. The story is compelling, the soundtrack is extraordinary and the game play itself is just fun and easy to understand.
It's been a headache to get my version to run properly on high end PCs, but GOG seems to have solved most of these issues. Borderless window and ultra wide aspect ratios work like they've been there the whole time.
I simply cannot thank GOG enough for bringing this game back to us. I bought it as soon as I saw the announcement, and even though It's been 3 months since last time played, I'm honestly thinking of doing yet another playthrough.
This game is a must-have. If you haven't had the chance to play it, now is the time. It deserves its spot in your library.
This was one of my favorite PC games ever. Props to GOG for getting EA to rerelease it, and updated to run on modern systems. The game is STILL a ton of fun, and honestly I haven't seen anything like it to date. The whole "each board is several sub-zones where actions in one affect the troop strength throughout the other sub-zones" is a trip. Game still looks pretty nice as well.
If I had any criticisms of the game it is these two things: 1. It should have been longer. The game feels two stages too short (would have been nice to see a trainyard map to finally shut down those troop/supply trains). 2. The game is way too easy. You HAVE to play this game on the hardest difficulty for the enemies to be threatening. Wish there was a harder difficulty after that too, since hardest feels like the baseline normal.
But these are minor gripes. The game is still exceptionally well done and a blast to play.
This is one of the best games I've ever played.
It's always fun and challenging.
It's an action game but with some strategy elements perfectly blended in. You'll notice them more and more with every level that you advance. Especially when you start commanding your own team of rebels.
I'd recommend not to play this game as your standard shooter, it requires a more indirect and thoughtful approach, especially on higher difficulties.
The only thing I hate about the game is the story, that USA=good, Russia=bad thing was really unnecesary.
Still, it won't spoil the gameplay at all.
