Demo better than many games
First of all the game has a GREAT concept: a physics-based engine in real-like medieval environment, how can it be not cool? BUT I think developers could add more of this casual-player conveniences... I mean add more easy mode without permanent death and may be make a tutorial, cause this game realy needs one. Also more like my dreams or some expectations: I'd like to see a world like in Kingdom Come or even Dark Souls (come on, everybody calls your game "DS with physics"). May be some day we'll even see a multiplayer feature, I want to believe in this at least. I did not see any real cons in Exanima. But it's not because the game is ideal, it's because we have rather few content for jugement here, and may be because I play little more than 2 hours, but I think I won't change my mind in the future. Anyway I wish this project to be developed in a great game, it has a big potential. Good luck, devs! And enjoy, players!

Nope.
With the exception of its beautiful graphics, I have nothing good to say about this game. There is nothing innovative or refreshing about this game: just pure unforgiving frustration and misery. Well, I say unforgiving... It's quite forgiving in the sense that if your character gets defeated in battle, you lose a small amount of your HP permanently. You only truly die when the amount of permanent health loss is equal to or exceeds your HP. Cool. However, what's not cool is that when you are defeated, you drop all your weapons and torch on the floor which are pretty hard to pick back up due to their small on-screen size. This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that the guy who just defeated you is still there, waiting, probably with his friends, ready to ruin your day all over again. Your character starts to attempt his return to his feet with all the grace and dignity of an elderly gentleman with a double hip replacement who has had to call the nurse up to help him off of the couch. Urgency is clearly no priority; It's not like you're being whaled on by some topless guy with a wooden bat or anything. If you're lucky enough to get back to your feet before you are defeated, there's simply no opportunity to rearm yourself in time before you are defeated again. And this cycle of up and down continues until your character is dead and you have to start all over again. The experience would be significantly less stressful is defeat means death. I could accept that. But I cannot accept this state of faux death that only exists to prolong the inevitable. I should also mention that your character is in a full suit of armour with a mace and the enemies are topless with make-shift weapons. I do not accept the disclaimer that you'll suck at this game at first but things will get better. I simply do not think things will get better. I appreciate that it's "in development", but nothing short of starting again is going to make me want to play this game.

One in a million...
So I've been gaming actively now for at least 20 years. I've probably played several thousand different games - heck, I currently own over 3000. What does this have to do with Exanima? Let's just say that Exanima, even in it's current state comes out on top for me. The same goes for the developers. I know talent and quality over quantity when I see it. This game, and its developers just tick literally ALL the boxes for me. Let's talk about something we all know about the game. Its development time. Yeah, it takes them a while to release an update. That's their quality over quantity right there. You can't expect them, with a tiny team and such high standards, to constantly blast out updates. While the content itself is lacking when looking at a yearly basis, the quality is not. The game is extremely well-optimised, looks amazing for its total file size and is technically impressive with its physics-based combat and exploration. Anyone who knows anything about game development should also know that it's very hard work creating an engine from scratch, let alone by just one person - which is the case here. Now I'm not going to get into the actual gameplay as I don't wish to spoil anything, no matter how small. I do have several hundred hours logged already(on Steam) and bought a GOG version just to give additional support to the developers. Out of all the games out there, this one deserves to succeed. One thing I can say is that the game asks for patience and a strong will. If you don't have one or both of these, the game can help you train them. Playing this game doesn't just make you a better player - it makes you a better person. It strengthens you psychologically, if you stick with it. Most games these days just make you weaker. Hold your hand. Reward you without reason. That doesn't happen here. I'm not the best writer of reviews, but I couldn't just pass on one for this game. Quality is high, and the game is only going to get better and more content over time.

A Masterpiece
If you like phyiscs and dungeons, this game is for you. Don't listen to anybody who tells you the controls are hard. They're simple.
