Soylent: I'd be interested in seeing sales figures (if they ever release them) comparing NA and EU sales. Then we could see which market they were aiming for.

One thing is for certain, I haven't seen any advertisements near me, in the US. I regularly saw Dragon Age 2 and Portal 2 ads on billboards and TV, but nothing about the Witcher.
That is Atari's fail. Clearly they don't see any need to invest in advertising here.

cloud8521: accually.. not too many publishers advertise games. just how it is
Which brings us back to the point- profit. Huge, "AAA" games that cost tens of millions of dollars to develop get massive advertising campaigns. Doesn't matter if the game is any good.

On a side note, Steam really changed publishing. Now small developers can release "indie" games on Steam for like ten bucks, while a company like Atari wouldn't even consider it.
I haven't played the game but I have a 16:9 monitor so that doesn't matter to me. But perhaps I'll wait a bit and watch if somethings will be fixed. It seems that it needs some polishing. In the meantime I'll try to finish the first witcher. It's propably a good thing that I don't have money right now.
Nowadays it's always the same thing. Crysis 2, Dragon age 2.. People are saying that they were made for a console. And yes, I was unimpressed with DA2 and what i have seen Crysis 2.. well I liked the first more, seemed much bigger.
Witcher 2 cannot be worse than DA2 and I liked even that, it just was a huge step backwards.
There haven't been many reviews yet. And it's a shame there isn't a demo, so those things will delay my decicion.
Everyone expects perfection, there is no such thing. But hopefully when I get the game, I will be smiling. =P

They are saving the advertising money for the xbox campaign :)
Microsoft supports the controller in Windows, you can download the driver. There are both free and paid software emulators that allow you to map keystrokes to the controller to use with any games. A lot people use controllers so they chose in game emulation for those customers. Looking into how the game works you can see how they adapted the controller to work with their keystroke command system, Toss in a menu command to make up for the lack of buttons and you have full controller support.

The decision to let their customers use a controller without resorting to an external emulator and not publicizing it was, in retrospect, a bad move.

but they can still keep the one they have but allow us to toggle a more KB+ mouse friendly UI.

best of both worlds with no compromise necessary. rather then have a freak of nature UI you get 2 UI options that work best with the chosen control method

I for one loved the original.

Geralt was strictly and magnificently European, as this version is more of a rough and scarred American version...And why didn't they include Polish language? I absolutely love how it sounds! The original Polish Geralt fit the character exactly! As soon as the SDK comes out, I'm doin' my damnedest to try and convert the original face into this game!

EDIT!
I'm DL'n the Polish language packs right NOW! Yeah! One down One to go! German and french are good though not as good as the original Language!

Please do my friend!

And maybe you can remove the predeterminer combat cut scenes and bring back cool action scenes that w2 does not offer.

Would love to, but I'm a graphic artist not a programmer/script-jockey. But fear not, when they DO release the STK, I'm sure you'll get a slew of master modders to do just that!

mastorofpuppetz: No wonder PC gamers are considered such a spoiled snotty bunch. This is the most PC centric game released in quite some time, please. Nothing about this game says console, its nothing like a RPG you would ever see on console.

The combat in Witcher 1 was a joke on hard, even on normal the combat in witcher 2 is quite a bit more challenging and your forced to use all skills at your disposal. This a RPG clearly designed as a PC first game. Compare that to Mass Effect, Drgaon age II and tell em this is a console game.

Name 1 console centric game they was released on PC first with no console version on sight?

I think most PC gamers have severe inferiority complexes when it comes to console, they say every game is Consolized even when its not.
For starters, I currently can't re-map my controls to Up, Down, Left, Right, Delete Key, or anything on the NumberPad.

Keymapping is being addressed in the upcoming patch.

It's not here currently at launch, now is it?
NOPE.
At least CDP is taking this step in the right direction and going to address this one issue out of many.

In the Witcher 1, we could change controls, graphics settings, and delete saves right within the actual game itself. In TW2 - this currently doesn't exist.

DA2 might not be as great as the masterpiece that was DAO, but DA2 is still quite good - even despite its problems.

In DA2, at least I can change setting of graphics, controls, delete saves within the game. I cannot do this w/ TW2 - this has to be done w/ the launcher, for the most part. For save deletion - I need to either delete manually from the save folder OR use that nice little utility someone made.

StingingVelvet: There's always someone out there saying "I beat it in 20 hours dood!" and honestly I couldn't care less how fast you went through it, and how slowly you swear you went through it.
I apologise if it sounded like I was trying to turn it into any kind of competition, I was just trying to support my point, that at least for me the game was a bit too short and the ending wasn't to my taste.

I really liked the ending I got, and I love the fact that I can get very, very different endings with a different playthrough. TW1 was fantastic, but TW2 trades some length for narrative flexibility, which I can also appreciate. I can still spend a lot of time with this game, so I feel like I'm getting my money's worth, but the time is now spent in a somewhat different way. Sorry, though, that your playthrough wasn't what you hoped. That's always a letdown.

Coflash: Why Geralt now looks like any other generic next-gen hero character? His odd looks were refreshing, does he *really* need to be more handsome to appeal to the 10 - 15 year olds this game will inevitibly try to satisfy? He's gone from looking european to an american with the squarest of jaws.
That, dude, it just pure freaking trolling! They simply took the model from the movies from the first game, so they don't have to remake it for better detail! And I don't give a shit about his looks. He behaves like intelligent Duke Nukem, his eyes glow, and he dies on easy 300 times from the hand of a weakest peasant! What else do you need???
