I'm just wondering why when I play my recently bought copy of the Witcher 2...

Why I cannot quick load?

Why the video settings for the game have been externalized, a common feature for multiplatform games, when it would have fit into the in game menu the same way it did in the Witcher 1?

Why the control mapping is also external, when I want to change a simple thing in game?

Why the esc button doesn't simply take you back in the menu?

Why the combat has been dumbed down to only ever involve hitting, rolling, hitting, rolling etc?

Why there are exactly 50 achievements, the requirement for a 360 game to be submitted?

Why it plays better with a controller?

Why Geralt now looks like any other generic next-gen hero character? His odd looks were refreshing, does he *really* need to be more handsome to appeal to the 10 - 15 year olds this game will inevitibly try to satisfy? He's gone from looking european to an american with the squarest of jaws.

Why can't I change the volume once in game, via my G15 keyboard? Why can't I mute it?

Why have the 3 levels of each combat type for the two swords been dumbed down? Was it really that hard to map to a controller? Again, you've taken depth from the combat.

Seriously though, it's a good game, but the only PC centric feature I can find is that it looks amazing. I wish people would stop listening to that internal monologue in their heads saying that this is a PC game when it is obviously entirely console focused. As if it weren't obvious enough it was going to consoles before release, the full version undoubtedly proves it.

I had played TW1 immediately before starting TW2, it feels very very odd.

i just about only disagree with this. he looks just about the same.. but with a ponytail
and handsome? have you looked at his ugly face/body? i dunno how he gets girls, because that face scared me and children
I find it hard to believe that you played TW1 before this, the combat in TW2 is considerably harder/more complicated than TW1. Try turning your difficulty to "Normal" or "Hard" before claiming that the game is dumbed down. There are countless threads here with complaints that the game is too hard.

While I agree with some things (mainly the quick loading, no clue of what happened to that) it seems as if most of your post is just trolling.
Compare all the Witcher 1 screens, to the third of TW2 here.

He's very different, as I said, after 40 or so hours of TW1 it is immediately obvious.

It is on hard, and I did play it, want my save game for both TW1 and 2?

How is it trolling? It's all based on fact, it's not as if coming here I didn't expect to face people such as yourself, but show me where I've trolled exactly when it's all based on evidence even you can see.

Wow. Though what can you expect, complaining about a dumbed down console game on the games only available forum? And for the non believers:

Sorry for calling it like it is. I love the Witcher 2, it's in no way a console game, nor are the plethora of console orientated game design elements suggesting it is. Is that better? Can I be accepted now?

While I agree with some of your points others a pretty baseless. Geralt does not look attractive and is not a generic looking hero. He generally looks like **edit**.

The escape button not taking you back is just poor design or an oversight, regardless its annoying and has nothing to do with it being less of a "PC" game.

I would like to know what was complex about the first game's battle system. I haven't played it all the way through my short experience with it showed a very shallow battle system.

I'm curious, how exactly is it "dumbed down"? TW1's unmodded combat was shallow and fairly easy (even on Hard). TW2's is considerably more difficult and requires more tactics/skill (in my opinion at least).

The misconception here, as always, is that you think I'm implying TW1's combat was hard. It wasn't, but it involved a lot more than rolling around, slashing, rolling around, slashing etc - and you had to use fighting styles, not just one sword fits all for two enemy types.

How exactly is it any more complex, or on the same level? I could take out groups of 7 soldiers (including knights) doing that, with no other aides, when I was barely 2hrs into the game. On hard.

Once you master one fight, you master them all.

He does look a big more wolf like in the original, but I didn't mind the change much ... you get a better look at his eyes. (I find it strange more npcs aren't intimidated just by that gaze)

As for the rest ... it does seem strange that they added more Quick Timed events to the second game when people were complaining about a trimmed down version of that in the first title. These being very common in the console world does make one wonder if the gameplay isn't already being set up for a consolization.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, (we do want more people having access to the Witcher's world and to purchase these games so more can be made) but it does feel strange to see in a PC game.

it is possible that they will hear and care

but its also possible that they are weening us out so they can become a console only dev

I agree, where are our group fighting styles? Our Quick vs Strong styles? That was one of the mechanics I thought really made combat cool in the original game. If those have been completely removed ... I shall be a sad person ... combat won't feel like the Geralt I've come to know.
I'm not sure what is dumbed down and what isn't, but combat in The Witcher 2 is about a million times better and more tactical than combat in The Witcher. Call me a console gamer for thinking that if you want, but since I have been 95% PC exclusive for almost 20 years I think you would be wrong to do so.

As for the rest, minor shit. I honestly couldn't care less.

Oh, I hope not. When I saw that presentation where they swore they were making a game just for PC, focused on PC gamers, it gave me a little hope we'd see an old school computer game only company getting into the market ... but I suppose consoles are where most of the money is, so from a business model it wouldn't be prudent to stick with only one medium.
