Touwa: AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS\ is the location of the save files

Although you shouldn't need to backup them as uninstalling the game gives you a choice to keep your saves or delete them.

Wishbone: Why is there no patch, but just an entirely new installer?
I would also like to know why there isn't just a patch file instead of having to download the entire game all over again. There are still people in the world that are bandwidth restricted.

I was kind of assuming that you might have colleagues who might know. I'm hoping that's the sort of thing somebody at GOG actually knows, because the alternative is somewhat frightening. Maybe there's someone you could ask?
For those people running into crashing problems using Nvidia cards, there is something seriously fiddly about the settings you need to use in some cases. At least for Windows 10 users. On the Steam forums a user named Heffro posted this:
Everything Maxed (Except AA which is set to FXAA)
In-game VSYNC OFF, VSYNC forced on through NVIDIA control panel w/ Triple Buffering ON
In-game 60 FPS Limit

Getting 60 FPS solid, with just an occasional drop to 55 here and there on a really complex planet with lots of flora and storm effects. No stuttering while using experimental patch, no crashes in 40 hours of gameplay with or without experimenal patch.
I have a Windows 10 pro (x64) rig with Core i7 3770K, 16 GB RAM and a GTX1070 card and the release version kept crashing every three minutes until I used his advice. Using the latest Nvidia driver (372.54 IIRC).

I have yet to try the new patch. Just got home from work and installed it, but figured I'd post this bit here. For people with AMD cards, you can try to fiddle with the settings to get a similar effect if the software allows it and see where it takes you.

For some people NMS has apparently also caused the processors to run into absolutely infernal temperatures, which has probably led to an overheating crash where the computer may have terminated the program to preserve the hardware. So check with some hardware monitoring program what kind of CPU temps you're running and see about the appropriate cooling solution (including clearing out the dust from your computer case). Anyone using stock coolers (especially with Intel processors, no idea about AMD as I've never had an AMD CPU) also deserves to have their CPU fried, compared to even the cheaper specialist coolers the standard coolers are crap.

Agreed 100%
And Steam just got a new beta/experimental version about 25 minutes ago.

Sorry GOG, other than CDP titles, won't be grabbing new releases here for a while now.
I'll still grab those old games when the prices are right or the nostalgia strike though.

This falls into the category of fool me twice, shame on me, so not refunding even though I should. The product is materially different than advertised, and is supported far different than the same product on the competing delivery system. Happened the last time I tried to buy a non-CDP new release on GOG.

(No problem buying TW3 here obviously).

CarSpy: I got the steam Experimental 3 Patch from TPB game works all setteings on max no lag no crashing GOG updates game crashing again at hello games
The bad news is that the save data is account-specific. If you use the TPB patch, you are basically using a cracked Steam version, and you won't be able to transfer your save data to the GoG version in the future, not even to a legit Steam version.

How is the patch done direct from GOG? Am I just downloading the installer again?

Red_Eagle_LXIX: Steam:
1 Support packages update (MSFT Visual Redistributable Packages)
1 Main branch update
5 Beta/Experimental Branch updates

GOG:
1 Main branch update

Apparently though we don't have the latest or at least it does not work right and has issues compared to the Steam version.
Phenom users of the GOG version report it not working, but it has worked on Steam since Beta/Experimental Patch 2.

This is rather disappointing. If GOG had contracted and been able to force equal levels of support, they would have known this already. However because GOG has not been making (and thus probably did not contract for same level support) HelloGames keep the support equal they didn't get to know this.
Why do you absolutly think it's GOG fault ? Do you think they must put a gun in the face of Hello Game ?

The maximum they can do is ask, or threaten them to stop distribute the game... something you can do only if you are the leader like Steam!

If the game is full of bugs, it HG fault! Same for the patches.

its not gogs fault the game is buggy...but it most certainly is gogs fault that their customers still dont have access to the fixes others got 4 days ago.

it doesnt matter if its hg that just wont send it to them...its gogs obligation and responsibility to ensure they get the same level support as other platforms. they obviously failed miserably in doing so.

if you dont understand that...then you dont know how businesses work.

as a paying customer...i dont care at all what the reasons are. all i know is that if i had spent that same $60 over at steam...id be playing the game for 4 days now.

but im not. its still broken...nearly a week after launch...even though theres been a fix for 4 days.
@chaosWyrM

Exactly that's the point. I don't know why so many fail to understand it.
