So, back when i started this thread i somehow totally lost interest in the game.
That sometimes happens to me: I just stop playing and will not touch the game again for a long time, if ever again.
Recently the Might and Magic itch struck again though, so i gave it another go with a fresh install of the merge and the revamp.
I have now completed MM6.
Most of the major problems i have mentioned in my earlier posts have indeed been fixed. Many glitches remain, but nothing to bad.
There is still something off about the merge, especially within MM6.
I specifically created a 4 member party, intending to keep the MM6 feel. I also specifically did only hire two hirelings instead of the four you can actually get.
And still, the game is significantly easier than original MM6.
Both early on, but also especially in the endgame. This is without boosting though, i turned that off early because it felt significantly overtuned at low levels, quadrupling monster hitpoints even at party level 10.
Early on, a major effect is that meditation now gives mana regeneration. This makes resting completely superfluous. And i remember emptying the MP fountain in New Sorpigal on every playthough. With the merger i did not use it even once.
I also think that the tickrate is a bit faster: Buffs don't last as long as i remember, but i think this boosts regeneration.
In the late game, i think the light magic buffs make a massive difference due to the GM level. But still even early, the game felt easier, with just expert level buffs. I was always dreading the large room in the Hall of the Fire Lord for example. It was a cakewalk.
At the end, fully buffed with fly, i could clear all of paradise valley in less than half an hour meleeing all monsters, almost never having to heal. Only repairing was annoying.
And in the end, after beating the game, i was a ridiculous level 96. Without even having done all quests.
Now i am at the beginning of MM7, with that mentioned level 96, and even with the boost enabled now, nothing seems to be a challenge. Maybe upping the boost may help, but i generally dislike damage sponge enemies in games, so i don't think this will be fun.
So i will likely not continue, especially since my itch has been satisfied for now.
If i do continue, i would likely restart from scratch with MM7, to be able to play that closer to the original. Since the magic is essentially the same in MM7 and 8, maybe the effect is not as strong then
