PandoraInVein: I see this is a really old topic, but I still have the same problem. I launch the game using Gameranger to play multiplayer with my brother, but after some time the game crashes. I tried playing alone in single player and it seemed to work fine. At least long enough for me to lose the game.
The first time I played multiplayer however, it seemed to work fine. But I had to reinstall it because I realised I installed it on the wrong drive to start with. Since then, it keeps crashing around 10 mins into the multiplayer game (using Gameranger).
I tried the cmd method but it didn't seem to work for me. I get the following messages:
After typing: "imagecfg -u Heroes3.exe" I get a message:
Heroes3.exe contains the following configuration information:
Process Affinity Mask: 00000001
Heroes3.exe contains a Subsystem Version of 4.0
Image can only run in uni-processor mode on multi-processor systems
Heroes3.exe updated with the following configuration information:
Image can only run in uni-processor mode on multi-processor systems
Image can only run in uni-processor mode on multi-processor systems
And after tying: "imagecfg -a 0x1 Heroes3.exe" I get:
Heroes3.exe contains the following configuration information:
Process Affinity Mask: 00000001
Heroes3.exe contains a Subsystem Version of 4.0
Image can only run in uni-processor mode on multi-processor systems
Heroes3.exe updated with the following configuration information:
Image can only run in uni-processor mode on multi-processor systems
Image can only run in uni-processor mode on multi-processor systems
Is this supposed to happen?
Help?
Those messages you get only say that the Heroes3.exe is already configured to use a single core, imagecfg simply reports that your attempted configuration is already in place. So there is no point in using imagecfg with the newest installer from gog.
I am completely unfamiliar with gameranger, but if gameranger interacts with the game process then it is undoubtedly the source of your problem and I would suggest uninstalling the game, and reinstalling it and see how it works without using gameranger.
