1Zpn7QM3: https://www.gogalaxy.com/en/ Download installer then close and kill any gog tasks in manager, right click installer and run as admin. You don't need to uninstall galaxy to do this.

fluran22: Thanks for posting this. This method got galaxy to update from 58.4 to 60.2 beta.

It had some freakout yesterday when starting a game after I had told galaxy to update later, galaxy crashed, game never started and then galaxy would only start up slowly after an error message. Today it would start slowly but no error message.
Interesting that you are on 60.2. Using this method, I'm still on 58 (I think...where can I check?) but it seems it has stopped trying to update. I just want the dialog box to stop appearing and for Galaxy to stop crashing. Hopefully it will be more stable going forward.

Same problem here - since weeks. Sure, I can download new version manually every f time, but that's just plain annoying.

In the Galaxy program/app click on the gear or wheel like icon in the upper left. The select the settings option and in the lower left of that settings panel is the Galaxy version.
Gibts dafür jetzt schon ein fix ?
Das nervt extrem dieses ständige Updateproblem.

Falran: In case you are still experiencing difficulties with updating GOG GALAXY please get in touch directly with our GOG GALAXY Team regarding the problem:
Top left corner cogwheel in GOG GALAXY -> Report issue

If for some reason you can't get to GOG GALAXY, please use the following form.

Please attach a zipped logs folder to your report.

To get to your logs folder use the Run command (WinKey+R key combination) and enter:
%programdata%\GOG.com\GALAXY\Logs

As a workaround, you could try to force launch the update once again by using the web installer.
When I try to report an issue in GOG GALAXY, I get a blank window with no content. When I try to visit the bug_report_page, I get a certificate error because it expired 6 days ago.

The logs folder on my system is 1GB and compresses to 30MB. Can I even upload files that size to your bugtracker?

I would guess 10-20% of the automatic updates fail for me. I have been stuck with updating errors since December.

This looks like a massive management failure. Contact me privately. I can help you get procedures and controls in place so your customers can actually enjoy the games we paid for.

phogan: In any case the link, tu-vas.la/gog points to a download for the 2.0.60 client that works (at least for me). It just redirects to https://cdn.gog.com/open/galaxy/client/2.0.60.2/setup_galaxy_2.0.60.2.exe for those concerned about following it.
Using the installer directly worked (didn't even require admin permissions), thanks a lot!

This worked for me too.
I have the same issue. I have 2.0.60.2 Beta installed, but a pop-up frequently appears saying that the update to the same version is available. When I try to update from within the client, it always fails saying that it couldn't update and asks to download the installer. When I attempt to install via the installer, it also fails and says the current version is already installed.

Why is the client offering an update to the version that is already installed?

You're clearly using an outdated version, because the bug tracker has been axed. Read the announcement.

1. Exit GOG Galaxy by choosing the respective option from the cogwheel menu.
2. Double-check in Task Manager that no related Apps or Background Processes are still running.
3. Run the full installer (the first link is for Mac and the second for Windows).

It should update automatically from then on, but in case of problems, open a support ticket.
Honest to god I'm convinced that GOG has only one guy working on this launcher and he's only allowed to work on it for one weekend a month and he has six months vacation every year and he also doesn't really *feeeel* like coding. Needless to say, same issue, among the ten thousand others this launcher has. It's so cool in potential, but it takes literally a decade to get anything done.
I get the same error doing a fresh / new install of Galaxy. But just ignoring it DOES appear to successfully install Galaxy, and everything seems ok ... until the next update probably, unless GOG fixes the underlying issue- it does seem like a background process is not properly closed, with the current version still.
Count me in - 20.60 update doesn't work and can't report bugs anymore - nice.
Yeah I had to uninstall Galaxy and then reinstall fresh with the latest version. Nothing else worked. I hope they get some of this stuff sorted out, Galaxy is starting to become annoying to even start up.
I experienced the following issue:

1. GOG Galaxy can't update. Says error.
2. I downloaded GOG Galaxy client, uninstalled the old one, installed the new one.
3. Great. Now I have newest GOG Galaxy.
4. Few days later GOG Galaxy says there is an update. It downloads update and... Goto step 1. :-/

Now every time there's an update I have to completely install from scratch? WTF??

And yeah, after fresh install GOG Galaxy doesn't recognize my installed games. So I have to add every single game anew. So annoying!

I'm among those affected by this issue too. For many months now (iirc since summer) every time im notified by Galaxy about a new version and proceed to update, it closes and after a minute or so produces a notification about the update failing, with a download link to update manually.

This update executable works everytime, without requiring the existing galaxy to be uninstalled, and the updated Galaxy recognises all games without problems. But it's still quite an inconvenience as well as a sign of lack of proper support, considering how many have reported it and how long it has persisted.

Many of us love GoG, in a sentimental kind of way (which is almost always a bad advisor when it comes to deciding where to spend your money), but oftentimes it feels like we 're being punished for that.
