It's unacceptable that this bug still exists.
Well I guess its good to know gog dgaf. I've tried everything none of their solutions to THEIR problems work.
I cant believe this is still an issue a year later.
Can't update.
Can't update. Download won't work either. GOG, Garbage On Garbage.
https://www.gogalaxy.com/en/ Download installer then close and kill any gog tasks in manager, right click installer and run as admin. You don't need to uninstall galaxy to do this.

Thanks for posting this. This method got galaxy to update from 58.4 to 60.2 beta.

It had some freakout yesterday when starting a game after I had told galaxy to update later, galaxy crashed, game never started and then galaxy would only start up slowly after an error message. Today it would start slowly but no error message.
Trying to get this mess working again was incredibly frustrating to a point where I now simply uninstalled it.

When the main goal of the software is a QoL improvement having such a poor user experience is a big deal.

Some improvement suggestions:
* Don't redownload the installer every time I start the install program I downloaded from the website.
* When the installer can't overwrite a file because your service has gone rogue and I have to learn taskkill to stop it because neither task manager nor services can kill it, then don't leave me with a broken installation after I manually delete the file and click "try again" in the installer.
* Add a "re-install / fix" functionality like most other windows installers have

I might try GOG Galaxy again at some point, but it will be a while.

That worked. GOG needs to fix their stuff shouldn't force the community to do their tech support for them.
Can't update either. Couldn't update Jan. 30th update without uninstalling GOG and reinstalling the new version. Now another update that fails.
Hello, GOG? Still broken. :(
I joined this forum specifically to post here since this thread still so active.

I got GOG Galaxy a month or two ago and only because I had a free game from Prime. I've been having this issue since the beginning. I wouldn't mind it much if it wasn't so damn often. I ignored it for a while but eventually I just downloaded the installer, killed the GOG tasks, ran the installer and it worked. I feel it was like a week ago and now the error shows up again.

My question is: how important are these updates? I only have one game and it's old enough that it doesn't get updated anymore if it matters. Can I just ignore that error message and never update GOG?

Also since I'm here for the first time and since everyone here is already frustrated with GOG, I just want to vent about how atrocious this website is on mobile. I mean, there is NO mobile version at all. Accessibility is non-existent. Everything is so tiny, and writing this post is even more annoying when for some reason I can't even select any text because it just zooms instead?

Ditto to this. I must admit it is wearing on my nerves that GOG Galaxy *needs* to launch itself every time I launch a good old game, yet each and every time I am met with the error message, since the program just cannot update itself. Hopefully they'll fix this in the future, but I'll be damned if I do a manual reinstall of Galaxy every time they roll out an update.

From my experience, the updates are not usually critical. If you're having problems (other than this update one) with Galaxy though, then the first step is usually to update it to see if that fixes things.

Capricorn1: Still doing it.

And it's annoying.
nah. annoying? nah, man. YOUTUBE ads are annoying.

this shit is ----ing ENRAGING. I had a whole bunch of trouble getting the last Galaxy horseshit to update properly, as it was doing this "There was a problem with updating this application. You can always download the latest version" (which of course doesn't work, since permissions aren't granted for replacing certain files - and I'm a noob casual or whatever, so I dunno what the hell it wants). but I *did* get it updated, finally, only to have it dump right back into this hellacious cycle.

Galaxy installer makes no effort to remedy the problem itself - so I go back to using the older version, only then in 10 minutes be asked to update the program, restarting the whole cycle.

they are actively making me NOT open Galaxy. I'm new to PC Gaming, as you've probably gleaned. and Steam is just such the easy winner for a Casual Gaming Consumer it's kind of hilarious. I WOULD take their DRM crap over this. what a shit-show.

breathe. sorry. this is really quite intoxicatingly maddening. I WANT to shop at their store in their app. they're not allowing me to do so easily. that doesn't sound like a great business plan. people are fickle, and so am I.

be well, everyone. we'll get there.
