NightK: Not really, the game is not complete without the DLC, not counting the item/costume packs the Mass Effect 2 DLC add much to the game, including the storyline between ME2 and ME3.

StingingVelvet: Some of the DLC was really good, especially Shadowbroker, but the game on the disc at launch feels complete. It's what reviewers reviewed, it's a complete experience. The DLC feels like DLC.
The point is, this is a war on consumers and their right to play a game when they want, and to buy it when the price is right.

I know so many people that are going back to the NES and SNES days, buying the games they couldn't have as kids now as adults. GOG exists solely because of PC gamers in the same boat. What will the people nostalgic for Mass Effect, Borderlands, etc do? How will they access the full game?

This games as a service mentality needs to be nipped in the bud RIGHT NOW. And the worst thing is, us GOG'ers are part of the problem...*Sigh*.

I agree with disliking it, I just think if no other option exists playing he core Mass Effect 2 experience is fine. It's not like the game itself is gone because the DLC is.

But yes, I agree with you. I would guess the corporate plan would be to sell it to you again, like with GOG. I would guess 10 years from now there will be complete Mass Effect collections on sale with a few new bells and whistles for a future console, like Devil May Cry or Silent Hill today. Maybe not though, since EA has never seemed that into re-releases.

Anyway the core issue is that corporations don't care about preserving their artistic output. EA honestly don't give two shits about Mass Effect 2 DLC being playable in 10 years. All they care about is making money, that is what they exist to do. That's a big shame throughout our entire industry.
Cant help but think if this is what they were going to do with the PS4 they would of tried implementing a version/prototype of it on the Vita to test it out to see how people would react. (unless you count the On-line Passes they have been using for a lil while now...)
Another reason to NOT think about consoles.

The PSP GO might count as a test run.

anjohl: Does anyone else realize the havoc this console generation is going to reap when the machines become "classic"? How do you play Mass Effect 2 when only 70% of the game is on the disc?
PS3 and 360 games are already doomed unless someone can create an emulator. The games will go 'poof' when the machines do and consoles this generation don't seem to have very long lives. :(
A well looked after 360 can last a long time. I havr a gen one 360 with a barely functioning DD. I have to trick it into reading a disc, but it works fine afterwards.
I decided to sell my PS3 after reading this. It feels like a dead end now, and it's nothing I wanna keep supporting...

Way to go at taking an off-the-wall rumor as fact. They things pop up all the time and always end up being way off.
Thread is too long to check if this has already been posted but just in case:

Sounds like much ado about nothing.
Best to just wait it out until way nearer the release time of the console for any confirmed info. Sure they say they won't do it because the backlash would be huge but that hasn't stopped big companies using DRM before.

And look how badly that turned out ^.^

I fully expect an ME anniversary edition in 5-10 years time (after the ME4 trilogy rewrites the back-story) to both fix discrepancies and throw in some extras...
I couldn't care less, really. I've always been a PC and never so much a console gamer. I only bought a PS3 a couple of years ago for some fun gaming (or so I thought) together with a friend in co-op such as the Lego jump 'n run games. But it turned out to be a waste of money. If it wasn't for a single game that I consider one of the best I've played (Red Dead Redemption) I would have long sold or given away for free that thing already. Technically, it is succumbed in any respect by a modern PC and thus not much fun to use. And I'm not even going to start with Sony's way of treating their “customers”. Well, okay, they are no worse than other major companies. But I also don't really feel inclined to give them any more of my money.

So, no matter what's coming up next, I don't care.
I doubt that this will ever truly happen in this way...

A console is for people that want to play a game where ever there is power... that does not come with "internet" there are Antarctic bases with 360's and ps3's in them... desert outposts full of soldiers with ps2's and snes's because they "work"

forcing online on a console is a bad move...

this kinda of DRM works on a PC, since in today's world its generally accepted that if you have a computer your "online" but this exception cannot be made for the console...

IMO a console is that just a Console, a terminal for your games yes it "Can" connect tot he internet but it should never need to, ever...
