I've seen the future, brother: it's mass murder.

Syndicate Wars, a violent squad based real-time tactical game set in to the tone of grim cyberpunk future full of corporate wars and artificial body enhancements, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99

Only the strong will prevail, the weak have no place in the world. Maybe except for the slums. We need drones like you, after all. Understand this: money is everything, because it can buy power. The whole system works perfectly. The big gets bigger and consumes everything that's smaller in the process. This is the ultimate form of human civilization. A great return to the laws of nature. Eat or get eaten. Only predators prevail and prosper. Then, they set their own rules. What choice do we have, other than to become loyal soldiers to the corporation? What point is there to struggle? I understand that now. You? You soon will to.

You'll become a soldier in the Syndicate Wars. You'll do as I say, go when I tell you to go, pull the trigger on my command--and you'll enjoy every nanosecond of it. The only goal and pleasure of your existence will now be to obey. No, don't struggle. There's no point. The restraints are made from the hardest alloy our lab could produce. Don't worry--it's going to hurt only for a moment, and then the machine will just switch off the pain in your brain. It's such a pity you won't remember this moment and our little talk. After all, today is the most important day of your pitiful life. Welcome to the ranks of EuroCorp elite, recruit.

Forget pain. Forget worry. Forget responsibility. Open your mind to the calm and soothing voice of the Persuadertron. Become an agent fighting in the Syndicate Wars, for only $5.99 on GOG.com!

tinyE: I'm watching YouTube videos of gameplay right now and it doesn't seem to graphically look as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be. I hope we haven't fallen into the mindset of 'if it's not Crysis it's crap'.

Seriously, the figures look okay, the cars look good, and the explosions look REALLY good. I hope I'm watching the right Syndicate Wars and not some wrappered up clone.
and that feeling when you blow up your first building, man!

I'm sitting here still thinking about it but I'm too comfy to get up and find my card. I'll get it before the day is out. I just noticed there isn't ONE bad review for it. NOT ONE! Usually atleast one person shows up to log one silly gripe about a game (ie "Carmageddon wasn't realistic"), but not this one.

which is quite a shock for me - all the people I know that have played Syndicate and Syndicate Wars tell me that the first one is great and the second sucks... but as I've only played Syndicate Wars I can say that it doesn't suck at all!
As a great fan of Syndicate, I bought Syndicate Wars years ago. As with Syndicate, the buildings of the busy cyberpunk cities get in the way and heavily disrupt gameplay. Unlike the original Syndicate, however, this can get really confusing and hard to manage in Syndicate Wars. The buildings are tall, there's 3D rotation, you're always struggling to see between them, and the pace of the game is much faster. To me, this completely destroyed the game experience.

Perhaps when I tried the game it was running faster than intended because of my faster processor, that kind of thing that happened with old games in new machines. I don't know.

so maybe the fact that I didn't play the first game made it possible for me to love the second :)

You could just get the game and see it for yourself, but yeah I think it still holds up quite well too. The amount of destruction you can do in Syndicate Wars is quite massive, it's possible to blow up even the largest buildings on the map like skyscrapers or banks (and collect money from the ashes) if you have a bomb with you. Some enemies carry explosives with them that can arm themselves and start beeping after their death, forcing you to make decision either to search nearby corpses and disarm the charge or run away, cause if it blows up it will take away large chunk of the street with it.

The game features climatic 80's style electronic soundtrack, plus some cities have large billboards that display Ghost in the Shell and Judge Dredd adverts to crank up the atmosphere even more.
Fantastic release, GOG. :-) Fantastic past few weeks.

Now, let's talk about kicking Steam's butt for trying to hoard some good old games like the Duke expansions and Worms Armageddon...
I'm going to hold off buying this untill tomorrow when I see the weekend bundle. Any rumors or news on that?

Shit, they have Worms Armegeddon! Hell, GOG, do something! I want to play this again without hassle on Windows 7. I tried downloading some pirated versions two years ago. It cost me a whole Saturday to get everything running, and still it wasn't quite fixed. Now a GOG version would be great.
And I think it could be cheaper than Steam's 14€ (more than 18$!) …

Geez, it's 15 dollars where I am. :-/ 18 bucks is crazy. Hopefully GOG will be able to get it here for 10 eventually. (That and the Duke Nukem expansions)

F4LL0UT: Two questions to the GOG guys...
So am I to infer that this is a DOSBox release? I wasn't sure as I've seen it frequently mentioned that it's a DOS title, yet Wikipedia lists it as having been released on DOS and Windows.
I just wish that you can say in-game ala Magic Carpet 2.
Instabuy.
Never had the chance to play this.

It's a DOS game.
I recall that the "windows version" was a windows installer for a DOS game.
It needs quite a bit of cpu power to run in an emulated environment though: SVGA and destructible worlds
