This wouldn't be a selling point or anything for me, just curious - about how long is the game?
Not interested in cheerful medieval fantasy at this time, but out of curiosity I wish the trailer showed combat better. This game has promise.

Hillsy_: Looks interesting...To anyone who has bought it, does it include a kind of manual within the game? or possibly a tutorial?
avatar
lowyhong: No manual, but in the beginning, there are tooltips everywhere to guide you. You'll quickly and easily get the hang of things.
Thanks for the info, will pick this one up, cheers! :)

It's not an easy thing to estimate, but I suspect that the main adventure is somewhere between 10 and 30 hours for most people, depending on your playing style. I have no idea what it'll be together with the current mods, but I do know more mods are on the way. ;)

avatar
AnneM: But in a nutshell: We do like to treat our players as well as possible. :)

lowyhong: Where can I buy Blotch merchandise? ;)
He's all yours lowyhong! Feel free to start a net shop called "Buy Blotch"! :P
Wishlisted for now but it looks really good. The music in the trailer really grabbed my attention; sounds like it has a gorgeous soundtrack.
Been waiting for this like a kid at Christmas! =D

Bloodygoodgames: You can buy the entire soundtrack on their website for 5 bucks -- all proceeds go to the independent musician who composed 15 tracks for this game, and is probably living on not very much money at all.

The developers who created the game are a husband and wife team who, if you buy the game on their website, donate 15 percent of all their proceeds to the Red Cross.

But hey......that doesn't fit in with the current GOG mentality of so many -- "I want a game that lasts at least 40 hours, with a manual, an artbook, the entire soundtrack, bonus DLC and avatars, but I'll only pay 3 bucks for it".

The Me Me Me syndrome of so many on GOG is getting more and more disgusting as time goes on. Whining, complaining and angry because they can't get exactly the game THEY want with exactly the extras THEY want for a price that in most countries won't even buy a goddamn latte.

I need to just turn off my computer as I'm so damn sick of half the people I come across on the internet.

The whining about a fucking GAME drives me insane. Get some REAL problems and then we'll talk. Aaargggghhhh.
avatar
RaggieRags: Sheesh, over-reading much? I'm not angry, I wasn't whining and I don't think I'm being selfish for not buying every new indie game. Spending all my money on entertainment I don't even have time for would make some real problems, don't you think? With a long backlog and a constant stream of good releases combined with limited gaming time, I just have to pick and choose. Am I entitled to that?
There has been less whining latly yes.
But i can understand the reaction.
I also got extremly tired of the constant whining a while ago
just because it seamed people didnt have anything better to do.
And the complaints wasnt valid in a lot of cases either.

So when people are a bit negative now
there is no wonder if people that are sick and tired of the whining is a bit snappy and on the edge.
If People want to hear constant complaining and whining they can go other places than a forum to experience it
they realy dont need it another place like a forum/gamesite to experience it.

You can add that to maybe he or she maybe had a shitty or bad day.
People that have such days which most people do soner or later in life feels the need to vent their frustration on somebody.
It sucks but it does happens.
I migt be wrong about the bad day theory of course.

By the way, all the music in Driftmoon is by a very nice, talented young composer called Gareth Meek. All the sales from the soundtrack (available at bandcamp) go directly to him, and I'm sure he'd be thrilled to get your support. ;) We heartily recommend Gareth to other game developers!

I was actually just checking it out out of curiosity. Pretty good stuff indeed. Will certainly invest in the soundtrack whenever I buy the game too.
Hmm this will the one new game I am buying this (or rather next) month.

Fictionvision: I realize saying this probably makes me an ass, but for US customers at least, it is cheaper to buy it on GOG if you don't have any discount. The game is priced with the somewhat infamous $1 = €1. At the current conversion rate, that would be $15.64, plus whatever conversion fees you get charged. If you want part to goto the Red Cross still, you can donate the difference directly and it ends up being more. $3.65 compared to $2.35 at 15% of $15.64.
avatar
AnneM: Your calculation is entirely accurate, IF you don't use the discount coupon from the Driftmoon demo on top of our launch price. With that included in the picture, the pricing will be almost identical at our own site and here at GOG (although I think the difference still is about 50 cents).

But this is not a very big issue to us - whatever you decide, that's fine by us! We obviously get a bit more (and are thus able to donate) from direct purchases, but GOG is a nice site as well. :)
One thing to keep in mind is that AFAIK the version from Instant Kingdom's website has (one-time) online activation, so it's not 100% DRM-free like I expect the GOG version to be.

I don't mind it as much in this case, since it's clear to me that this registration is meant to be temporary and helpful (easy in-game feedback) and not restrictive (the developers are very open towards DRM-free solutions). Just thought it would be worth mentioning since quite a few GOG members, when given the choice between online activation and DRM-free, might choose the latter (and that would be the GOG version).

Yes, the GOG.com version is DRM-free - as well as is the Desura version. And additionally the GOG version will at first startup ask whether it's allowed to use the autoupdater or the automated mods list, so it's easy to turn off all network features in case you don't need/want them. The regular version has both options too, but the GOG version more explicitly shows the options on first startup, since you might not necessarily expect a DRM-free game to use the network.
