ERISS: this is golden. Selling the DLC separately is a GOG nonsense, a sellout.
avatar
k1bell: Soldak sells Din's Curse and Demon War separately too.
Yes, but GOG does not have to copy the history of this not-new game.
Soldak did not update the showing of the game on his website. The complete game is with DW.
Selling DC without DW is selling a demo now.

JudasIscariot: Depths of Peril has exactly that: topside with some forays into dungeons :D

F1ach: Just had a look at it, the Diplomacy thing wouldn't really appeal to me tbh, But thanks for he suggestion :)
You can easily ignore the diplomacy bit :)

I just conquer the other tribes, if need be :)

Cool, I'll check it out if t comes on sale sometime, cheers :)
A helpful tip for new players:
Fire can be deadly, making it a very effective tool. Doorways are flammable.
A natural chokepoint + cheap AOE DOT = ?

Just be careful you don't end up stuck within reach of the fire, or set the wrong thing on fire. Fire can be a very effective tool when used with care.
Depths of Peril sale next! ;D

whrsmycoffee: how does the multiplayer work? can you play co-op? is it only online on their servers or is there a LAN alternative?
avatar
micktiegs_8: Both. Soldak is quite generous with the flexibility of multiplayer.
Thanks for the info!
K first impressions... This is from about, oh, an hour of play. I haven't explored all of how to fully play the game, but what i've played is fairly stressful, too much running around, too much 'xxx started a fight in town with xxx', and 'there's a uprising in the tormented cave level 6!' (and you're still in level 2).

The game is reminiscent of Diablo 1/2, however feels more like DarkStone.

Inventory is tiny (12-16 slots)
Dynamic changing quests (starving quests, getting attacked in town, plague, etc).
Music is annoyingly soothing, sounds like something i would have jammed out to myself on my own when i'm depressed in my younger days
Combat is fairly simple, most controls are familiar if you've played D2.

I really like how the hybrid class is set up, where you can choose 2 trees to specialize in. However i've barely touched the conjurer so i'm not sure what to think, although having necromancer skills while also being able to summon demons seems... Like i'm trying to do too many things at once.

I dislike the 3 quick slots that are set up by using the up/down button. It's on the other side of the keyboard vs where everything else is going to be at, making it awkward. If there's key rebinding this problem is moot.

Quick selling via using the space bar feels cumbersome vs D2's Ctrl+click.

Movement is done via mouse, no keyboard options for WASD or something (a minor annoyance)

Stash/Shared Stash: Very Small... has about 10 slots, however you need to put BAGS in them, i'm not sure if bags are just another storage type or if they hold their own storage. Something to find out later.

Needs a quick salvaging slot/option. I get normal items i would want to just sell right away, if i had a slot which gets dumped to being instantly sold i'd enjoy that; Or maybe a dump bag i can sift through once i'm back in town...

It takes a bit to adapt to this game. The more you play the more you'll learn which tasks require your immediate attention, which can wait, and which can be ignored outright. Keep in mind that your goal in this game is not to complete every quest, it's to save the town. No matter how good you are at this game you're going to fail some quests, and that's OK so long as the town can still be saved.

It may help when starting out to take advantage of some of the options available to you when starting a new town. Things like turning on low stress mode or slowing the pace can make things much more manageable. But in time you may come to love the exhilaration that comes with near failure, and start bumping that pace up. That's one great thing about this games: plenty of options to keep the game just as challenging as you want it to be.

Allow me to explain how the inventory/stash system works. You have four bag slots. You start the game with one 16-slot bag. As you progress, you'll start to find bags that you can place in your other three slots. In this way your inventory will slowly grow from 16 slots up to a maximum of 64 slots.

Then you have the stash and shared stash. Each one has eight bag slots. You place a bag in a slot and then you can store items in that bag. A full stash with the largest bags will have 128 slots of storage.

The inventory system is designed to be tiny when you start out, but slowly grow as you progress through the game. But if it doesn't grow fast enough or isn't large enough for your liking, you could always find or make a mod.

There is key rebinding. I have it set up with the mouse wheel.

Yeah, another hour and I came across two pouches that have 4 each. Once I got those, it made a lot more sense and in a way feels a little like Odin Sphere. (Loved that game).

Which is good... I'll have to do the same for mine.

Updates:
I lost the first town I was in, due to not finding a gate to get back to while it was under attack. Second game I started the difficulty too high (I was level six and didn't want to start fighting level 1 creatures). Ended up abandoning it.

The third town is balanced and low stress, small world dungeon... Once I get more a feel for the game we'll see...
Anyone bought and successfully downloaded Demon War DLC ?

I am through 2nd round of mails with GOG support over this at the moment (persistent problem with downloading) - and wondering if the problem really lies on my side (3 different computers can not seem to fetch the files either through GOG downloader or through browser link, went through fixes recommended by support twice with zero effect).

What problems are you experiencing? Anything specific?

edit: if you're trying to download the game via the Downloader please try downloading it via your browser for now. I just checked the links and everything looks to be in order...

Can't access the DLC files neither through the Downloader nor through webpage. Already went through JuriJ's fixes for reinstalling the DLer/fixing .NET - twice. Problem persists across 3 different computers (Win7/8.1/Fedora Core) at 2 different IPs one of which is constant - getting the 403 error on browser download and 'Unable to fetch data' in DLer.

Several more details are at ticket DG9MY1HP (first filed on Saturday).

EDIT: Still getting the error through browser. First time I had anything like this, other stuff downloads fine.

Is there any chance that gog will offer Drox Operative from the same developer as Din's Curse? That game would really rock.

A bit late to the party but yes, I downloaded the DLC via browser with no problem.
I got the DLC through the downloader... no problems...
