Snickersnack: I'm aware, I just answered a different question. ;)

My candidate for first fps isn't a shooter but a 2.5D maze game with smooth 360 degree movement from 1982.

Way Out
Don't forget that the S stands for shooter...

All FPSs are first person, but not all first-person games are shooters...

Lol. What's next? Just walking into their office and pretending that you work there? :D
Wow this reminds me of Pathways into Darkness, Bungie's second game and the "prequel" to Marathon (which would make it by extension the grandfather of Halo, I suppose).

Hm, I should try that should I ever visit Warsaw. Doubt it will work though.

Whoa, so this means that this week is an all-classics week. We should have more of those. :D
YES!

tfishell: I wonder what the "music track" is.
The only song the games have. :)
Putting the O back in GOG ;) It's great to see the that Catabombs-shaped hole in the catalogue is now filled. It's quite dated, but this was THE game that brought the FPS genre to the masses. (at least until Wolfenstein, Doom and possibly Quake brought the genre to progressively-larger masses, so I guess Catacombs's "masses" were quite small by comparison, but it was still my first FPS, darnit!)

TheEnigmaticT: Epic ninja award, there. :P

EDIT: :: Shake fist:: G-DOOOOOOOOOOOC!

I'm certainly not against those, but realistically I'd just like GOG to guarantee at least 1-2 old games released per week. (as long as they don't rush compatibility testing and gathering of bonus stuff) :)

IMHO, the acronym First Person Shooter isn't enough to define the genre. It doesn't exclude popular games like Star Raiders or Battlezone which few would put in that category. From my perspective, FPS is the more modern title for the genre that evolved out of 'Doom clones'. I selected Way Out because it has a lot of similarities to Hover Tank. I wouldn't be surprised if Romero or Carmack played it.
This is classic. I'm glad it's finally here.
I used to play the shareware versions of these off one of those "Epic Mega Games" discs.
I loved it.
Very cool release.
