Part survival horror, part detective novel, part action, and part adventure--a must-have for fans of exciting thrillers and sublime story-telling.

Alan Wake, the psychological action thriller, is available now on GOG.com--and it’s on sale for 50% off for a week! That’s only $14.99 for the game and both DLCs until Tuesday, May 15th at 21.59 GMT.

From Remedy, developers of classic Death Rally and Max Payne 1 & 2, comes a third-person shooter described by its creators as combination of "the mind of a psychological thriller,” and "the body of a cinematic action game.” The player controls Alan Wake, author of popular detective fiction, who needs to find his wife in a perfect and fictional--yet nightmarish and dreadfully real--town of Bright Falls. The story is told in episodes in style similar to a mystery TV series, with each episode having its own plot but revealing new piece of the main puzzle as well. The story is filled with endless twists and cliffhangers, there are recap sequences at the beginning of a new episode, closing credits, and a lot of cinematic sequences--all of these combine to create a fantastic “film noir” atmosphere, unique to the world of PC horror games. Fans of The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, and Stephen King will find numerous references and inspirations while solving the mystery behind supernatural horrors that infest Bright Falls.

Mr. Wake will walk the streets, find clues, and talk to people during the day; he will fight various enemies during the night. Light is the main weapon in Alan’s fight against the town’s inhabitants who have been possessed by a darkness that transforms them into axe wielding murderers. Enemies are initially impervious to attack, and can only be harmed when exposed to light, coming from your flashlight, flare guns, flares, and environmental sources. Even if you’re not afraid of the dark, the game will keep you on your toes, and once the darkness creeps in you will not want to leave your safely lit havens.

Gripping suspense, intense action, great thriller storytelling, flawless design--yes, Alan Wake is a perfect game. Time magazine named it the best video game of the year, IGN awarded Alan Wake “Best Horror Game”, it has also received numerous nominations for “Best Narrative”, “Best Writing/Story”, and “Best Character” (for Alan Wake).

Grab Alan Wake for the next seven days for only $14.99--and get with the manual, wallpaper, and a number of videos and extra goodies (stay tuned for more extras soon) all for one great price! Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future!

Hm, What has Alan Wake to do with good old games ?
And what is the good gameplay on this game ?

Did you miss the announcement that GOG was going to start selling new games as well as old games? Also GOG isn't an acronym anymore.

Yes i missed this announcement. But why change your basic strategy and your core principles ?

Because we, the users, asked for it. I know you particularly didn't ask for it but GOG made a survey some time ago and the majority of users voted for new games.
Also the core principles didn't change. We still get DRM-Free games with extra goodies and one global price in dollars.

Thanks man, seems like a sweet community too!

Because experience has taught GOG.com that they can make a fair bit of money by selling new games DRM-free around here. I mean, look at how high The Witcher 2 and Legend of Grimrock are in the list of bestselling games. Hell, Alan Wake itself has already outsold quite a number of releases on the site. And that game was released yesterday.

In a sense, they don't change. New games will eventually become old games, after all.

Because this way they can show "duches" like Microsoft,Take-Two,2K Games & Lucas Arts that DRM-Free is better then any form of DRM...

Alan Wake is selling better than: Soul Reaver,AC 1,Heroes V and most of the new releases in 24hrs... damn American Nightmare is selling more than games released 2-3 weeks ago for less than 24hrs...

So yes strategy and core principles can save PC gaming ;)

And they are still releasing older games too.... so it really, REALLY didn't change the basic strategy. They changed from good OLE games, to just good games (which includes old). Theoretically EVERYONE should be happy as there is something for everyone. Some are choosing to not be so happy though :p
As much as I love the new/old games on GOG debate, and the never ending GOG/Steam war, let's get back to the important question. Will we be getting, or have the option to get, the Alan Wake soundtrack?

For the record I like new, old and indie games on GOG. And I prefer GOG over Steam.

Only a blue one can tell you... they are trying to get more extras... OST should be one of them

I know. I was just refreshing the question so GOG doesn't think we lost interest. I'm waiting for the soundtrack to show up before buying so my purchase will show after that. If I doesn't show, I will still get this on the last day of the sale.

timppu: I'm wondering whether Alan Wake is still receiving updates, meaning that either GOG needs to update their installer, and/or provide the patches separately... Yes, this is a bit of a problem if and when GOG starts selling newer games. Not a critical problem, but at least it will stress GOG's servers more if people redownload huge games many many times just for updated installers.
I think using separate patches approach is safer and just easier. Sometimes one patch provides fixes for specific configuration and should not be used when not necessary. That means if GOG would like to update installers it would have to provide us with multiple updated installers – each with new, subsequent version of the game.

Golden times when we didn’t have to look at System Requirements are sure gone now…

EDIT: BTW - is it me or GOG is rather slow today?

Really gorgeous deal, I must admit... Still hoping for the OST as a purchase bonus, tough. Hope GOG will do its best to release it as well, keep up the good work!

actually, I've installed the game and, after running it, it told me my hw isn't enough and set everyting to "low". I said "screw you" and set everything to "high" again, started the game, and it runs smoothly :o) so don't worry too much about it I guess...
