Well I think a big warm congrats is in order.

As you might remember i bough it a few months ago, but the discussion dies of - entirely my fault - totally tied up in work and family business. I've still not found the time to give the game the time that it deserves. Meaning I'm still stuck at the same point - it's become night and it rains like hell and that miraculous door at the mountain side still won't budge.

But take it as a compliment that after all that months I still have a pretty good idea about where I was, what I have found out out so far and what I think I was to do next. With the abundance of games I have in my backlog and that I tend to try out that is quite an achievement - your game id stille "with me". Your game is still installed and I'm still waiting to for the right moment to play it (again). Problem is - it's a game where my chattering children should not be around AND where I shoudln't feel like 'just wanna butcher a few monsters and then fall into bed'. And that are requirements that I are hard to meet at the moment for me (that's why The Witcher 2 is on ice (though it preys on my mind).

But I have played your game, and I liked it. (Most: Atmopshere (the beach could have been a even longer) and writing, least: typography and sfx-mixing (not the sfx themselves).

I'm looking forward to finally give it the time it deserves. It currently just shares the fate of the likes of the Syberia, Bad Mojo and Dark Fall and TW2).

To be honest, I don't really know what "greenlit" means. I'm not a Steam user. From what I gather it means a wider audience with huge chances and risk of praise or troling. Or even constructive critizism (althouth rather are on mass- fb-like- platforms.

Whatever - I wish you the best of luck. For spreading your art, because, tthat's what I thinks you're trying to accomplish. A gem unpolisged is what you created that deserves attention, but by the right people. I just hope you reach them.

PS: I'm dead drunk right now and just realized it took me more than an hour to compose this post, and the people that very easily meanwhile ninja'd me are totally correct too.

Congratulations! I think you should be fine, as long as you price it competitively. Also, prepare to embrace the "Walking Simulator" tag XD
Put a full effort into your product and you shouldn't have anything to worry about. By the way: do you already have a soundtrack composer?
DON'T MOVE...be very still while I pull it off of you. :O

....

Okay, you're good to go. That was a close one. :D

My advice to you would be to keep your customers happy. Giving Steam keys to buyers on other platforms goes a long way. And learning how to use criticism to improve yourself rather than as something to cry about and eat ice cream over is always a plus. If and when you get bundled, be sure to pick the right one(s) that are popular enough (bundlestars, groupees, gala, or the fabled HIB). You might just put yourself up on the HIB store anyway as a distribution platform.

The rest is just you basking in being a glorious developer. You created content. You are a creator, a maker, a god. Enjoy! And feel free to try to make other developer friends. Go to the developer lounge, do some bowling. The works. :>

javihyuga: So I would say stop bitching about nonsense
I feel like this is good advice for me in general :P

NoNewTaleToTell: First off Congrats! That's a huge achievement.

I'll echo what others have said, just be honest about the games length and try to lower their expectations to reality and stay active on the game's forum. Nobody likes a developer that releases a game and then forgets about it.

As far as potential reviews, I haven't played it (yet, I'll go ahead and do that today) but "walking simulators" (for lack of a better term) or any "artsy" games tend to (initially) get destroyed on Steam unless they have a LOT of hype behind them like Dear Esther. That doesn't mean that your game is actually that bad, it just means that it's not a modern FPS/RPG with million dollar graphics (or a good filter) and multiplayer which is what most people on Steam seem to be wanting.

I would reach out to Tale of Tales (developer of The Path) for a bit of advice (and maybe a Tweet of your game haha) since they seem to specialize in "artsy" games and have managed to develop a bit of an audience in that style. It's also worth doing since they seem to be really interested in cultivating a "video games are art!" scene.
That's not a bad idea. I'll try and contact them.

monkeydelarge: If Depression Quest got more positive reviews than negative reviews on Steam, you have nothing to worry about.
Wait, it did??

That makes me feel a little more confident :P

Getting through Stream greenlight speaks for itself; this is an indication of merit not a condemnation.

lol, cool. I thought that you had mentioned making music before, but I wasn't sure.

I'll check out the soundtrack and the game soon.
Congratulations!
That's cool, but an hour? Hmm.

Anyway, it seems to be a good way to "get yourself out there" if you plan on doing more, with it or something else.

Yes, I know. And thanks :-)

But please have the confidence that I'm still have the motivation to make it on my own. As I wrote, I just need to find the time and leisure to to it.
Please see it as a compliment that the game is still very present with me. And this although I knind of playd it in a hurry (I was counting the mnutes 'til my family would ring the door bell).

I will very probably play it sgain from the beginning.

Games like these are no fast food (even if they are short). They are to savour like a good wine. Unfortunately all I've managed was a bottle of beer in the evening for the last few months. Or to put it another way - all I managed was a copule of pages of Charlaine Harris when a wannabe/couldbe Poe (no offense meant by wannabe) was already waiting on my nightstand.

Congrats!!!!!

Being Greenlit is huge and you have a ton to be proud about. And of course being unsure and a bit scared is just part of it all. I watched the trailer and I find the game very fascinating. I will be buying it, one because it looks like a good game and two because I would love to support a fellow GOGer. I agree with a post above me about being honest about the length. I do not mind short games that are fun and entertaining. I am not sure what price it will be at steam but over at desura it is listed at $2.99 (not that price make the game) but $3 for a hour of fun is not a bad deal.

Any idea on a release date over at steam?
I will pay for 3 dollars of fun!

That said bring it to gog!
Commiserations :)

I'll be releasing it as soon as possible. Not sure what the price on Steam will be. I've heard that they have a say in the price, but I don't know for sure. If it's up to me, it will be the same as on Desura. (Actually, when I originally released it, it was $1.99, but I had to bump up the price because of Desura's minimum price limit :P)

I submitted it a few months ago, and they didn't want it. Which is perfectly fine. I understand that they like to keep their catalog a little trimmer than Steam does.
