jefequeso: It's really not an adventure game. It's more like a fusing of 3rd person shootouts (which, once you get used to the incredibly slow projectiles, is awesome), exploration, RPG questing/dialogue, and puzzle solving. It's basically just a lot of fun, and very immersive.
avatar
lugum: yeah the term adventure game got really abused alot. some say tomb raider is adventure too or now those hidden object games they call it adventure...

i checked some moves and the graphics sure look great of its time.

wonder if they could bring the nomad soul in here... (think its alike)
The art style of the game is great, and the graphics are pretty good, all things considered. They're also fascinating as heck, since there are so many "cutting edge" features that this game actually included (my favorite being the dynamic reflective water). And plus, voxels are just COOL. I don't know how anyone could not love them. They're so...voxely...

lugum: if gog managed to get a contract with them...
...we would get Thief series here.
*_*

spindown: I really like how you always put a creative spin on things.
:)
avatar
lugum: yeah it's an eidos game. but from what i gathered square enix took them over.
if gog managed to get a contract with them...
I doubt Squeenix would want to sell their games for cheap. :(

jefequeso: Genres are kinda stifling the industry, too. Makes games far too cookie-cutter.
Most genres we have now formed between mid 80's and the grand genrefication of the mid-90's. Just when hardware started to allow great things everyone was put into cages.
Ahhhh the inner child ! Tis a wonderful thing :)

csmith: I like this method!
When i was a kid i read this donald duck comic strip where there was a guy advertising a philosophy of life: each time you need to make a decision - flip a coin. Of course he was the "bad guy" in the story but I upgraded and adopted some portions of it: if the pros and cons are equal or there are none I roll a dice not to end up in the all-too-familiar endless stream of what-ifs and maybes. :)

It's not like I mind genres, per se, but I hate how everything has to be shoved into a predefined method of categorization. And I especially hate how it's somehow "revolutionary" to make, say, an FPS with elements of an RPG. It's like innovation has now been reduced to merely not COMPLETELY conforming to a mold. Just because something can't be easily fit into one category doesn't mean it's the second coming of Christ.

erm..rant over :P
