tinyE: Because those human characters are played by people like Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. :P It's like they got together and thought, "How many self righteous pricks can we fit into one movie?" :P
Honestly, I think Shia LaBeouf gets a lot more flak than he deserves. It isn't really his fault that he often ends up being in controversial movies with terrible scripts (though it is kind of odd how often he's been selected to play in revivals/sequels to old movie series). When he has had something good to work with, he's actually proven himself to be a genuinely talented actor. In any case, I don't think the sheer presence of human characters was the issue. The issue was that not only did those characters get a significant amount of focus for a movie ostensibly about the titular robots, they were also quite terrible as characters and the segments focusing on them only served to detract from the movies.
