JDelekto: "Transformers: Age of Extinction" with Mark Wahlberg.

snowkatt: oh the "best" one of the 4 then
I thought it was a pretty entertaining movie. It was a three-hour marathon though!

I recognized one of the other characters (the guy who was in Extract and the Silicon Valley series) who ended up getting fried from the thermal grenade. (I assume this is the "odious comedic relief character" to which you refer.)

If that was the best one of the series, then I might have reservations about seeing the others.

Elmofongo: I have seen the movie and I was mostly bored of the 4th movie. Totalbiscuit also summed up the movie:

thats the one

this movie is the "best" because there is almost no "humor"
the "humor in the other 3 movies are mostly annoying an juvenile

no characters are so annoying you want to see them explode unlike the previous 3 movies especially sam and his parents
and if you dispise what are essentially the human protagonists and the movie is for 80% about them
then there is a little problem

im not crazy abotu the new cast of human characters but at least i can stand them
and that alone makes transformers 4 the best of the lot

...sad isnt it ?

if you want to watch an actual good transformers movie watch the 86 animated one
or just a marathon of beast wars beat machines or animated or even prime

Probably because G1 is more simplistic in design. Later generations makes Optimus more "Zazzy"

But to act as a 10 year old kid for bit:

"Yeah but my Optimus has a command center and can turn into a bigger robot :P"

not really
its just because i prefer the G1 fiction ( ie yhe comics the marvel ones and the idw ones )

but if you really want to go there
my powermaster optimus prime can do the same ;p

or my masterpiece optimus prime is 3 times as big

But I realize when it comes to toys Transformers are certainly not the most "playable" of Toys imo.

Mostly because the models feel stiff and not dynamic enough.

And Lego, Lego is just glorifyed statues.

G.I. Joe and Barbie are the most "playable" of toys imo if I ever decide to play with toys as I am I play with G.I. Joe.

Transformers can be statues for all I care of them.

Alright alright its a "playable" toy :)

Speaking of Animation to sell toys.

Its times I wish that these 80s cartoons to sell toys, "Thundercats, He-Man, G.I.Joe" have the potential to create brilliantly written animation. Because the 80s were just not that well done. To the point I think I understand why G1 80s Transformers cartoon was a cut above the rest. Right now 80s He-Man, GI Joe and Thundercats are treated as a joke. I don't see that much jokes made at the expense of G1 Transformers. Its because of that these shows need a better animated show.

He-Man certainly got his in the 2000s:

eeeh they arent really well regarded by a good chunk of G1 fans
most treat them as a joke
nor are they that well animated they are except from criticism ( probably ) because unlike he man or thundercats
transformers never ever went away
from 1984 untill now there was always a transformers line

and there have been much much much better transformers tv series ( beast wars beast machines animated and arguably prime ) since then

personally i dont care for the G1 cartoon
i find most plots light weight boring and borderline insulting to my intelligence

season 3 though veers wildly from one direction ( what is this shit ?! ) to another ( how the hell did they get away with this )

ie a zombie prime ( dark awakening )
a pacifist willing to die for his believes ( the ultimate weapon )
shouldering responsibilities ( burden hardest to bear )
a satire of psycho analysis ( webworld )

with a moribund autobot leader

personally i like season 3 the best but the animation is piss poor

It is interesting to note that the 'spirit' of the Thundercats did manage to live on until around 2005.

Only in this particular episode, it was rather edgy and Lion-O was the bad guy.
