hyperagathon: As in, there was 50 copies of X left and they stopped it before those 50 were sold? If that's so, then sure, I can see why you'd be unhappy.
That seems to be what happened. I had the main screen up and Lumino City was stalled at ~50-60 copies left (if my memory is to be trusted), then refreshed and the sale was gone. I think the other game was an Anomaly game at ~30-40 copies, but I wasn't interested enough in that one to pay it much attention. The counters definitely didn't run out.

An ugly end, but all in all, I actually enjoyed this Insomnia sale whereas I strongly disliked the others. I just wish GOG communicated these types of things beforehand so that people could plan around them instead of waiting around for hours and being disappointed.

rtcvb32: In many ways this is one of the more annoying week long promos. I'd rather they either have everything listed, or like during the winter sale where there were 10-16 items on sale rotating out every half hour so the whole thing was 4 hours checking in.

And i think my chances for getting free games was exceptionally low... :(
I'm not a fan of the insomnias either. I wonder how these sales manage to do so well that GOG keeps bringing them back.

There may be sales with better deals, but the fun in the "Tracker Thread" was invaluable!
...and I had just finisbed gouging myself on an insane amount of caffine in anticipation... for nothing.

My guess would be that it's partially catering to the community who unfortunately hypes these events, developing a love/hate/cult relationship towards it, and the other factor may be that they can probably offer higher discounts if they're restricted to a limited number of copies and short time windows. I'd assume that devs and publishers of rather recent games wouldn't feel comfortable with 50-80% off sales if they were running for longer and more calculable periods so that everyone interested in their games had the chance to buy it for a significantly reduced price.

moonshineshadow: You see the last two insomnias every game appeared three times. So when this sale games also started to appear for a third time, everyone assumed that the sale would last until the third round of games is finished. Since it did not there was some confusion and a clarification would be nice, why not all games/movies appeared for the third round :-)
I see. Some quick analysis of http://birdiesoft.dk/insomniaspring2015.php reveals that only Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie, Banner Saga, PixelJunk Monsters HD, The Frame, Signal Ops, Neverending Nightmares, Rayman Origins and Anomaly 2 appeared less than three times (two times each). That is a bit strange, if it goes against prior practice. It's only a handful of titles. Perhaps if Braveland Wizard didn't appear six times, heh.

grimwerk: Oh, officers, do you know what just happened a few minutes ago?
You ain't gonna believe this shit. Check this out:
The truck? It just stopped, man! It just stopped!
You got some jumper cables-- you give me a jump?
Sorry, I have no jumper cables.

Nothing really appeared more than 3 times. What's listed there more than 3 times is either a case of flashing back for a few seconds, and one copy, after apparently ending (possibly because the last buyer canceled or, more likely, because of a syncronization issue between GOG's servers), or in case of Doorkickers and Age of Wonders 3 (twice in this latter case), briefly appearing instead of what should have actually been there at the time when GOG apparently changed it from one list to the other, so a little momentary bug.
So let me get this straight: GOG had a sale for a week and you guys are upset because you missed your change? I don't know about you, but I got all I wanted without hanging on the site for 24/7. Maybe it's luck, but I'd reckon a week for a sale like this is more than enough.

And besides, the way I see it, this whole insomnia thing is very much like special, limited sales in any physical goods store. You come too late, you won't get what you were after.

Oh, I remember seeing a few of those flickbacks. And looking at the times is revealing. Looking at the > 3 titles, 30 entries.

No, people who are upset weren't late, they have been waiting since Friday for a game/movie in the 3rd round and those 7/8 items were the last ones in Round 3 and GOG axed the promo before people could even buy those items.

Not everyone can be here every day due to other responsibilities. Everyone expected the promo to last until the every last copy of all 150 games were sold as per the previous Insomnia promos.

Now I thankfully got what I wanted but I am still upset because it's unfair to those who didn't even get that 3rd round.

opticq: Then just cut all of the copies to 50 each, simple. Or a max of 100 depending on whether it's a game or movie. Atleast give a chance to people who waited 2 entire days for just 1 item. Come on GOG.
To be fair, everything went at least twice. It's not like they stopped on the first releases of anything.
It's understandable if they wanted to end the promo before the start of the new week, but they could also have resolved it by putting all the titles who had yet to appear in round three on the front page at once, on Sunday.

I think the complaint is rather about the lack of clear communication. GOG didn't mention anything about the time when the sale was going to stop. And apart from that, "fair" is not really a word I'd apply to these types of sales, they are pretty random. A game I was looking for always appeared when it was darkest night over here, I wouldn't have had a chance to buy it if it weren't for the helpful GOG community, unless I'd really stayed up all night during weekdays, at the expense of my work. (Mind you, I'm not sore about it, it's just the nature of these promos, I'm only saying even if games appeared more than once, there was no means to ensure everyone had a "fair" chance to get them.)

*shrug* I was pretty much done with Insomnia, I was just checking back from time to time for critical hits, so I can't really complain, although I understand why some people might.

I never though it would run for seven days. I don't think GOG did either. Some people have made some valid points about this so far. A statment from a blue might clear it up, or not...

Neither was I. I think I visited the site during 3 days or so and that was more than enough. But as said, it migth have been just luck in my case.

I don't think these kinds of sales are about fairness at all. It's really unrealistic to expect GOG just patiently wait that EVERYONE gets their fair change to get something.
