Mr. D™: Just waiting for the next decent SciFi game.
Have you tried Beneath a Steel Sky?
It's free here on GOG and it's pretty nifty.

Breja: I know exactly how you feel. I'm rewatching Star Trek Voyager right now...
Scotty, WHY!?
avatar
Mr. D™: Well, I`m really tempted to buy Space Ranger HD or The Last Federation but I really dislke that ancient 2D-Spacefight. I mean its not even isometric., and SPACE and 2D... meh
They usually show up in sales. Wait... just a little longer.

R8V9F5A2: I think there's a whole bunch of worthy sci-fi games around, if not on GOG then on Humble Bundle (they sell DRM-free games as well),
avatar
Breja: It might be worth mentioning that a sci-fi RTS Meridian: New World and a sf first-person adventure game Albedo: Eyes from Outer Space are part of this weeks Humble Weekly Bundle (both are DRM-Free).
Way ahead of you there, I've already picked them up but haven't tried them yet. Pixel Heroes looks quite fun as well, not sci-fi obviously but I've grown to like modern pixelated games, thanks to Terraria most likely.

Mr. D™: Jupiter Nexus Incident,
Drat, I was goind to suggest this one. Real gem of a game, and with some pretty cool eye-candy for a 2005 title. It's a shame their KS for a sequel failed.

Hey, even the weakest Star Trek series is still lightyears ahead of most other shows. There are plenty of great episodes there, especially with Seven and The Doctor.

Fun fact: the game was not even meant to made, it was just the emergency solution after it was decided that I think another Descenttitle would not be made. So the people said "Well we got this engine and assets here..." :D

...just adding my mustard to this conversation

Voyager, argh that show nearly killed the franchise, I can`t watch most episodes. Especially not the ones with Kes. Firefly is IMO weaker than Next Gen but by far stronger than Voyager.

I think that's a flawed comparison, since Firefly only lasted one season of 14 episodes. Is Firefly better than Voyager's season 1? Sure. But seasons 4-5? I'd say they're about equal, I might actually lean towards Voyager. By that time the show got much stronger, and Seven of Nine's presence especially led to some great episodes.

I'll agree that most of Kes' stuff was boring, but she did get two really good episodes before leaving- , and [url=http://en.memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Before_and_After_%28episode%29]Before and After.

Hm Space Engineers looks promising. D`oh! Its early access.

0Grapher: And from what I've seen No Man's Sky could be a disaster, Limit Theory at least looks incredibly stunning.
No arguments there. But Limit Theory just as so, so much going on. Or at least it will have if it winds up being the game it's meant to be. When so much can go wrong you've got to keep your expectations in check.

You're right. I'm not so sure it'll come out at all to be honest.

True, Seven and the Doctor were great characters. Mainly due to the actors who played them I think.
Still, I wish they had a better show...

Mr. D™: I love Sci-Fi. I really do. Listened to Star Wars and Perry Rhodan on tape at the age of 5 even before I saw the movies. Started to read small Sci-Fi novels at the age of 7. Watched Space 2063, Babylon 5, Star Trek, Firefly and what so not.
SciFi games will always be something very special for me. Wing Commander, Jupiter Nexus Incident, Space Quest 4, Master of Orion 2, Descent Freespace 1+2, Homeworld, U.F.O., Schleichfahrt etc etc

But in the last time more and more games are released that are basically a multiplayermode sold for 50 or 60 bucks like Destiny and Titanfall, or some kind of platform to sell overprized DLC like Dead Space 3 or Evolve or worse.

The companies claim that attaching a single player campaign is not worth it, because most gamers won`t play it anyways. IMHO that`s bullshit and just a form of justification to significantly cut down content and production time and costs.
But I will not buy Titanfall, Evolve or the new Elite. Fuck those companies. Fuck their business model. And fuck their C.E.O.`s

Sigh.

Just waiting for the next decent SciFi game.
I agree with you, even if I am a console player for most part of the new games. I didn't enjoyed Dead Space 3, (I loved the 2 first ones), I had ZERO interest in EVOLVE from the very beginning, ELITE or STAR CITIZEN are not interesting to me because they are focused on the multiplayer, Titanfall MEH!, and DESTINY IMHO is plain horrible, it mix a the worst character design in an FPS ever with all the things I hate from MOBAS.

Well, that's what I would call an happy accident, 'cause this game is awesome oO
AI Wars could be up your alley too with Last Federation and Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.

Space Rangers and STASIS have been mentioned.

Have you played Independence War 1+2, and Project Eden?

Voyager is a task to watch because most of it is so awful. I'm not sure it is worth the handful of interesting concepts and shows to make it through. It's waaayyyyyyyy better than Firefly though. I'd watch Voyager 10 times instead of having to watch Firefly a 2nd time through. Luckily neither of those are a forced option. Check out FARSCAPE if you've not seen that - for me, it is perhaps the best sci-fi show, ever, topping all of Star Trek. Total Recall 2070 is quite excellent too. Oh, and Dark Angel seems to get under-rated somehow. LEXX also doesn't get enough mention, but it is definitely an acquired taste and nothing phenomenal.

I didn't even make it through the first season of Farscape. I was just bored, it felt very been there-done that for me after all the Star Trek and Blake's 7 (now there's a great show). Maybe it gets better later, but watching it was way too much of a chore find out.

I really don't get why people hate Voyager so much. Sure, it's not as good as the previous three, but there is really nothing outright bad about the show. It's also funny how opinions shifted. Voyager was really well liked, even won some polls for the most popular Trek in some magazines, and now it seems to be hated way more then Enterprise, which many seem to have reevaluated as much better than initially given credit for (with that at least I do agree).
