For some reason the old thread is gone, so I'm opening a new one.

Maldita Castilla is a great action side scroller game inspired by Ghosts'n Goblins and other classics of the genre. I think it belongs here perfectly, and deserves being on GOG not any less than new additions like Odallus: The Dark Call. The fact that it's free shouldn't stop GOG from adding this game which is made "for the glory of traditional gaming" as the author put it.

You can vote for it here: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/maldita_castilla
I like the look of it for sure. Voted.

Look in the General Discussion Archive, perhaps? Maybe it was moved there because its last post was in 2014.
This is a good, quick read on the site:

Ah, I didn't know there was some archival going on. Where can I find the archive?

GOG will most likely refuse it, just like they refused Heroine's Quest.

They already did, but reasoning is not clear. May be GOG think it's a big overhead to host and support free games. Steam does it for the reference.

On the main community page, right underneath the general forum.

I see, thanks. That's annoying, but I guess GOG couldn't cope with the size.
Insn't it free (and DRM-free)? Don't really see the point. And it's not even 50 MB. Just download it, and keep. Why bother GOG about it?

To give more exposure to it. And GOG can set payments system which is voluntary (i.e. pay what you want), including part of it for GOG since they host it. I see a point in it.

I don't think they're going to set up a whole new payment system for one freeware title. I guess if they add it to the free games lineup here it would be nice, I'd just rather pester them about games that can't be so easily obtained elswhere already (coff coff) :)

I asked Locomalito on Twitter (September 28th, 2014) about bringing Maldita Castilla and other titles to GOG. Here's the response:

@Barry_Woodward @GOGcom if you think of it, my games are "donationware", shops usually don't consider this option and just tag games "free"

It seems Locomalito would probably go for it if GOG could set up a voluntary payment system or at least make it clear that the games are donationware and provide a link to PayPal for people to donate.

Yes, they can add it to all free games they offer, which will also make adding them here more interesting for GOG, since they might even get paid.

I think it would be beneficial, both for developers of freeware games and GOG themselves.

Me: "Would you allow GOG to host your games if they setup a way to handle donations or linked to your PayPal on each game page?"

Locomalito: "sure, that's the point"

The ball is in your court, GOG!
