Emob78: Tame? With content no, delivery yes. It's amazing to see how far you can go with shiny packaging and a multi million dollar PR campaign. If those themes are now considered tame, I'd hate to see what's edgy and dark. No, I've seen clips of Human Centipede... got it.
GreenDamsel: The content is realistic. Every scene with nudity or violence is believable and "needed" by the plot to advance properly. I'm sorry, but medieval ages were not a happy place to live in. The fantasy by GRRM is believable and thus I'd not define it as edgy. Dark: Yes. But that's life in many cases. Edgy per my definition would be something needlessly overtoned for the sake of attention alone. Stuff like Hatred is edgy. I found the scene in Inglourious Basterds, in which they shoot Hitler, edgy. Because both are incredibly and unecessarily over the top.
Some stuff we may find repelling personally. Then again I only said that it has gotten tame "in comparison". Of course it's nothing I'd show a mentally 10 year old, for instance.
I'm sorry. I just got rustled, because I see the term "edgy" thrown around so much lately and I really dislike it. Something is edgy when it offends for offense' sake. I do not think that's the case for GoT.
PM me if you want to discuss further.
Back to topic:
Series before bed, I'd recommend: Actually Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. A nice medium-shallow series, which is not too challenging before bed. Aside that... Maybe Homeland or Vikings. Loved both.
Quite an edgy observation.
