Emob78: Game of Thrones. Because when you desire to rest your mind with deep, peaceful sleep, the best thing to fall asleep to is the sounds and images of incest, child murder, war, pestilence, and endless conflict between bickering inbred royal families. Yeah, buddy.
Exaggeration ofc, GoT is pretty tame.
It's generally a bad idea to flash light into your eyes if you want to properly fall asleep, so I try to just lie and think about what I have done. Or something.

THAT IS EVEN WORSE

Actually it has gotten tame in comparison to other series. Back when the first season aired it was scandalous. Now every other series basically dares the same.
At least that's my impression.
My best guess tells me these aren't on GOG, but I'm a huge fan of scifi thriller series'.

Dollhouse, Alphas, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles were all series' I thoroughly enjoyed. ALL of which ended WAY too soon!!! Orphan Black, a currently running series on BBC is really good and a little weird, but awesome none-the-less. Also been really stuck on Shameless (US). Mature audiences only on that one. Even a bit squeemish for mature peeps lol. It's pretty raw mock-reality comedy/drama.

Matewis: Interesting, I never thought of it like that. You've definitely altered my perspective on the series with that. Can't wait to start watching it again! I don't think that there are heroes like that on tv anymore :P
Nope, they don't really have those types anymore. Only bland boring types, either lame grimdark ones or even lamer 90210 types which was bland then and is still bland.

No characters!

Tame? With content no, delivery yes. It's amazing to see how far you can go with shiny packaging and a multi million dollar PR campaign. If those themes are now considered tame, I'd hate to see what's edgy and dark. No, I've seen clips of Human Centipede... got it.

Matewis: Anyone else like to watch 1 or 2 episodes from a series to guide them to slumberland?
Not in bed, but when alone at the appartement, I like to watch 1 episode of a series each evening just before going to bed. It's a nice "daily ritual", helps me unwind, and I appreciate the series more this way than if I was binge-watching them.

Last year, I watched the entire "Buffy" and "Angel" series this way. 12 seasons, 22 episodes each season... Let's say it took most most of the year ^^ (Amazing show, by the way. I started rewatching Buffy out of nostalgia, but ended up enjoying them far more than the first time, 15 years ago)

Right now, I'm on "The Clone Wars" cartoons (middle of season 5... I think I'll finish in july)
I used to watch Outer limits and Twilight zone before sleepytime :D
not sure if it's the best idea for everyone though :D

Hey! Me too. One or two episodes of the original black and white Twilight Zone right before bedtime hits the spot for me.

Indeed. The Twilight Zone deserves its very own thread here. I'd make one myself... just kinda tired right now. All this amazing SALE action has left me devoid of proper endorphin levels... can barely summon the energy to press the START button.

The content is realistic. Every scene with nudity or violence is believable and "needed" by the plot to advance properly. I'm sorry, but medieval ages were not a happy place to live in. The fantasy by GRRM is believable and thus I'd not define it as edgy. Dark: Yes. But that's life in many cases. Edgy per my definition would be something needlessly overtoned for the sake of attention alone. Stuff like Hatred is edgy. I found the scene in Inglourious Basterds, in which they shoot Hitler, edgy. Because both are incredibly and unecessarily over the top.
Some stuff we may find repelling personally. Then again I only said that it has gotten tame "in comparison". Of course it's nothing I'd show a mentally 10 year old, for instance.
I'm sorry. I just got rustled, because I see the term "edgy" thrown around so much lately and I really dislike it. Something is edgy when it offends for offense' sake. I do not think that's the case for GoT.
PM me if you want to discuss further.

Back to topic:
Series before bed, I'd recommend: Actually Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. A nice medium-shallow series, which is not too challenging before bed. Aside that... Maybe Homeland or Vikings. Loved both.
I haven't watched my TV set for eight years, I do watch BBC iPLayer [match of the day / documentaries]

I can't remember the last time I saw an Advert :)

I'm more of a radio listener

We've been bindging on Supernatural in my house - we've gone from S1 E1 to half way through season 8 in a few months!
Family Guy and American Dad every night. Thank you BBC 3.
