awalterj: Not me, I know full well that I suck at handyman skills like repairing machines etc.
Watching MacGyver makes me want to be a better person though, as I said earlier it's the human aspect that impresses me even more than the technical stuff. You see, the technical stuff involves a lot of luck and gratuitous plot armor. I'm especially referring to the improvised fuses (for traps, explosives etc) that practically always go off at the exact right moment. Timing that so precisely is a pipe dream, way unrealistic even if the contraptions would work.
But Macgyver also fixes relationships between humans, in quite a few episodes that's the main focus and he just uses his technical ability
to illustrate that you can fix everything if you set your mind to it. One example is the hockey dad for whom Macgyver repairs a machine and then convinces the dad to repair the relationship with his son. MacGyver always finds a way to get through to people, whether they are tech savvy or not he always finds something to change their mind with.
Except for Jack Dalton but that guy is incurable even for MacGyver.
Interesting, I never thought of it like that. You've definitely altered my perspective on the series with that. Can't wait to start watching it again! I don't think that there are heroes like that on tv anymore :P
