Usually a Twitch stream of some kind, preferably a horror game or something slow...if I watch movies or TV shows I feel invested and need to finish the thing.

Matewis: Anyone else like to watch 1 or 2 episodes from a series to guide them to slumberland?
Yes, after a work day I'm usually too tired to play games so I just watch an episode of MacGyver instead, started a couple months ago and made it halfway into season 5 so far. Haven't seen any episodes in years prior to now and it's still my favorite series of all times. Hasn't aged a bit, and for 80s kids it's wonderfully nostalgic since my childhood memories are from that era. Like a time machine, very relaxing.

What interest me most about the series isn't even the chemistry/physics stuff but the human aspect of it. MacGyver is quite a hippie (check out his homemade tofu stew lol...) and he's a bleeding heart liberal but that's perfectly fine in his case because he puts his actions were his words are and he always comes through in the end. I don't personally know anyone like that in RL but I certainly respect people whose actions are in accordance with their lofty views. It's kinda sad that I have to watch TV to see that in action. Anyway, MacGyver is my go-to show!

Stargate SG-1, it's always good in the background, even if you have seen it many times.

Riotact: Going to watch The Thing (Kurt Russell version) with my son shortly while pigging out on crisps and coke (a-cola) :P

Stevedog13: That is one of my favorite movies of all time! I can't wait until my kids are old enough that I can sit watch it with them. Well it would be more accurate to say "When my wife thinks they are old enough to watch it" as I saw the movie back when it first came out on home video, I'm thinking I was 6 or 7 at the time. Scarred the bejeesus out of me and I loved every second of it.
yea i love that movie and the recent prequel, cant wait to watch them again

gunsynd: Love cricket, but it sure is a sleep maker at times.
Now that's an idea I might try that. Well not cricket exactly, but golf. I find both boring (wish baseball was a thing over here), but golf is also strangely serene. I imagine falling asleep to golf would be like a mother gently tucking in her baby for the night.

tinyE: It is a classic. A must have for any collection.

Telika: It's the movie that taught me how to beat computer chess.

Or any videogame actually.
LOL Cheating Bitch :)

Hey since the OP is gone and sports has been mentioned, do other countries have All Star games? I can't say I've ever heard of a once a year game where the of the best best from, as an example lets say The English Premier League, play a big exhibition.
I'm back!

We have something kinda like that. The Currie Cup. 14 teams, but only the best 8 can play or something like that. Almost each year it's the exact same set of 8 teams though.

Super rugby is also kind of like that, and it's the highlight of the year. Well either that or The rugby championship which is more intense, but doesn't last as long.

Yeah,golf's another one and gridiron.

I still want to see the Silent Hill film. I've only seen bits and pieces on tv, but that was enough to convince me not to watch it right before I go to bed, or while I'm in bed for that matter. I try to stay away from films in general before I go to bed. Last one I tried was The Host which only managed to upset me :P Great film though

pimpmonkey2382.313: Glad my parents never "protected" me from horror movies either.
Mine did. I had to secretly put the VCR on record before I went to bed one night so that it would tape a late night showing of Predator. I must've been about 13 at the time.

Aces! He's definitely my childhood hero as well, though if I'm honest I haven't seen that many episodes. Still, just listening to that themesong is dangerous in of itself. It makes me want to violently grab the toaster, or the microwave oven, or anything with wires, so that I can furiously dismantle it :P

Not me, I know full well that I suck at handyman skills like repairing machines etc.
Watching MacGyver makes me want to be a better person though, as I said earlier it's the human aspect that impresses me even more than the technical stuff. You see, the technical stuff involves a lot of luck and gratuitous plot armor. I'm especially referring to the improvised fuses (for traps, explosives etc) that practically always go off at the exact right moment. Timing that so precisely is a pipe dream, way unrealistic even if the contraptions would work.

But Macgyver also fixes relationships between humans, in quite a few episodes that's the main focus and he just uses his technical ability to illustrate that you can fix everything if you set your mind to it. One example is the hockey dad for whom Macgyver repairs a machine and then convinces the dad to repair the relationship with his son. MacGyver always finds a way to get through to people, whether they are tech savvy or not he always finds something to change their mind with.
Except for Jack Dalton but that guy is incurable even for MacGyver.
Farscape, BSG (the new one), Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, X-Files (especially this), TNG, Game of Thrones even.

Game of Thrones. Because when you desire to rest your mind with deep, peaceful sleep, the best thing to fall asleep to is the sounds and images of incest, child murder, war, pestilence, and endless conflict between bickering inbred royal families. Yeah, buddy.

Interesting, I never thought of it like that. You've definitely altered my perspective on the series with that. Can't wait to start watching it again! I don't think that there are heroes like that on tv anymore :P
I used to watch sitcoms I've seen so it's neither exciting or new but nowadays I read on my Kindle to avoid an LCD screen.
