Cyraxpt: Heh, where's the guy that heard about The Witcher 4 for 2017? :)
He was bad at reading roman numerals. IV looked like III to him. It's Witcher 3 that they expect to be ready for 2017.

shoveling: It is going to be a Bard.

sanfueg: So this is true then!
This was so genius, so fucking genius! I loved it!

Tormentfan: Interesting.. A post from codex.

Yeah, read that some time ago and hoped it's not true. I mean, we all like (and trust) CDRP, but we still have to have to be careful not to trust them blindly.

Promising teh shit and not keeping it is a no-go. Let's hope these 3 months will be enough for them to get their shit together. Would really be a pity if their fans got disappointed...

sanfueg: 24th of February.

This is a very old post:

"The Witcher 3 will be available in 2014 for all high-end platforms, including PlayStation 4."
Yes, you are right. I forgot about that.

This is the second delay, and the game looks downgraded. I hope it won't be a bad game.

It's understandable. Witcher 3 needs to be a successful game with a smooth release, because if it's not then CD Projekt is dead. They used to be the biggest publisher in Poland - today they practically don't exist in that area. All they have left now is GOG and CDPR (which currently means the Witcher because Cyberpunk 2077 won't be here any time soon). I only fear that the Witcher 3 may be a victim of overambitious vision just like Gothic 3 was.
This is good for me and CDPR. For me because I have more time to save up for a worthy computer to play (and hopefully max) this, and less bugs in the final game (hopefully). It also gives CDPR more time to optimize and make the game, and releasing it later in the year can help earn some more game of the year awards just because it's so fresh in our memory. Games that release later in the year tend to get more game of the year awards and nominations as I've seen in my years of gaming. In fact, I forgot Dark Souls 2 released this year.
Reasonable decision, also because of the success of DA:I.

Paradoks: I only fear that the Witcher 3 may be a victim of overambitious vision just like Gothic 3 was.
But community patched abandoned Gothic 3 into quite nice game! Not close to initial vision maybe, but still, quite enjoyable. No more "Oink! - Oh crap, TAKE COVER!". :)
GOG will have to modify their entire FAQ on The Witcher 3 (the french one for sure) as all the dates indicating february are wrong now.
May... <sigh>....
then I'll buy it for my birthday ! ^^'
The stuff I've been reading in some sites, concerning this matter, shows all the hypocrisy that exists in the world, concerning "big" and "small" brands.

CDProjekt announces that they will delay the release and most people start to announce a catastrophe and claim that CDP is on the verge of collapse;

Ubisoft delays and delays another of their endless Assassin's Creed games. Game finally comes out... bugged to death, but all the fanboys cheer... "Hooray Hooray! - another AC exactly similar to all the other 34 or 35 previous AC games is out! Ubisoft always delivers!"

If you're a poor guy you can't allow yourself to fail (even a little), otherwise everyone will spit and piss all over you and call you a fraud.
If you're a rich bastard, even if you mess up terribly, the majority will applaud and call you "The Best" because, well... you're rich and powerful (sigh)
That's a little disappointing... not very but a little.

I realize they've been getting plenty of bad press for their quality control lately, but it seems kind of minor honestly compared to what they more or less deserve. That is a big, yearly, AAA release, not just a second tier high priority game (like, say, Watch Dogs, once again more or less). The fact they thought they could release that game in the state it was in should not exist in a theoretically competitive industry.

Yes, you're right. The specialized press is hitting them hard (and deservedly so) for rushing a buggy game.

But I wasn't referring to the press, in specific. By the "cheering fanboys" I was aiming at the large (and it's really large) crowd of customers who sing praises to every Far Cry/Call of Duty/Dragon Age/Assassin's Creed/(insert AAA title here) regardless of the mediocre gaming quality of the final product, as long as the game has some shiny HD graphics.

The game news forums are overfilled with people who say that Witcher 3 will fail because the graphics in the trailers "look bad".

Back in my day people would spend hours and hours playing 8-bit games filled with colour-clash graphics. Nowadays the "Facebook generation" only seems interested in see well-rendered characters moving and jumping around. The question of wether those well-rendered characters do anything interesting or complexe in the gaming universe seems to be getting more and more secondary.

EDIT: I must be getting really old and grumpy :(

I was actually using bad press as a generic term, fans and critics included, point still taken.

I know what you mean, frankly a lot of games around nowadays that do extremely well in the minds of many leave me unimpressed and the popularity sometimes leads me to mercilessly deride and poke holes in them. Not mentioning any names here (ah, to heck with it. Dragon Age Inquisition, after giving me a shimmer of hope with the better than expected advertisements has failed to leave an impression that isn't plagued with negativity and pointing out cheap plot, narrative, visual tricks.). Personally, Witcher 3 looks great to me, not as good as I was hoping it would be, my only real concerns are related to plot and continuity. I also think that Xenoblade and Xenoblade X look great, and not too many share that opinion right now.

And, at least that's better than me. I'm grumpy, and I'm not even old.
