I'll bite. What's wrong with him?

Have you ever stopped reading, midway through a sentence, and asked yourself "Why the hell am I still reading this?!" Well, I have, and one of his books was the hapless culprit. His style always struck me as bland and his characterisation was about as flat as I've seen - never got me to care for any of his heroes. He's dabbled - badly - in a variety of licensed material, Star Wars, Dune, StarCraft... and his work has often been the basis of some bad further development in their respective canons. In the end, I simply think he is a bad writer. It's an entirely personally developed opinion, so whether others agree or not is up to them.

Been a while since I read any of his books, but yeah I know the feeling.
Just the last book I read had parts that where it felt like that. (Neal Stephenson)

haven't read of his stuff as far as I'm aware, however his stuff must be pretty decent to have sold a good amount and keep selling.the average reader just wants something decent to read and not go into nit picky overdrive. hell I was a big fan of David eddings and piers Antony stuff for a long time (plenty of critics about their styles especially the former about his trilogies being samey). anyway, decent author - must be pleasing some readers. also hard to find decent eBook bundles for this price.unsure about paying 10 bucks for the two bonus books? opinions?

I've even read through his Saga of 7 Suns and I'm still alive :D But then again, I'm not the best literary critic, so whatever. Now, those books weren't masterpieces, but they were okay. As for the later Dune novels...well, him and Brian simply aren't Frank Herbert, so that's that. Still thought the books were okay (and I prefered the series having an ending than no ending at all).

Assuming you're discussing KJA, his books are what made me cautious of stuff that merely sells a good amount and is consumed by the average reader. Actually, "decent" is not a bad way of describing him, but it might not be enough; it isn't for me. He can certainly concoct and churn out stories, and as such, they aren't the worst out there. A decent story with diverse stuff happening would probably appeal to the market of casual readers. It's one of the reasons he's so malleable to licensed universes. But, as I said, I just couldn't stand the missing characterisation and atmosphere in his works, that's what made me write him off.

Again, this is just my personal opinion of his work, which still sells quite well. (so why go bundle?)

Honestly, if 50 cents seems like too much for a each book, maybe they're not really worth getting ;P.

The $3 minimum must have been introduced with this bundle - I didn't bother to check as it used to be $1 and addressed in their FAQ as just enough to cover bandwidth costs.

Yeah, have read that in their FAQ as well and I do think it's fair. Will probably pay a bit more than the 10$ in order to give some to donation :)

When the minimum was $1, the jump to the threshold for all titles could feel too steep.
Increasing the minimum to $3 should make the jump easier for more people, especially if the extra titles or their authors are good ones.
And yes, it's a thoutful gesture to add the donation money on top.
