It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

"Blip" even sounds like something that ends prematurely.

tinyE: I wish Bling would die. Fucking malware times 1000.

yyahoo: Bling?
XD I was referring to the search engine. Sorry about that mix up. :P

jsjrodman: I'm a little lost as to why video requires a special service as opposed to just video files hosted like other files. Seems like a browser deficiency to me.
Until a site gets big enough, yeah it should just basically be file hosting, as that's all it really is... Verify the content is what it says it is (mpeg4 with audio vs an encrypted zip file...), throw a simple fast plugin or way to access/view the videos and call it good. If the service gets big enough, then you expand and invest, rather than try to compete in everything before they have the user base...

Bing could actually spy you less than Google does. But at this moment only really privacy safe search engine is Duckduck, all others try feverishly make money out of you.
Not having ever heard of Blip before makes me wonder what other services / alternatives I'm missing out on; I'll have to put some work into finding and supporting non-monopolistic services soon.

IXquick? As far as I remember IXquick doesn't even log your IP address.

It's not the spying or not spying, it's the being unable to get rid of the damn thing! :P You delete it and it keeps coming back. YOU CAN'T KILL IT!!! It's like the Jason of search engines.
I thought this was another memorial thread for a GOG user who hadn't logged in for a week.

And swag.
I've never used Blip, but I'm shocked that YT crippled one of their old popular channels like Nostalgia Critic's.
Also, the other one is a bit a mess (and I can't even find the Cinema Snob).

That name was pretty foreshadowing.

Laa hah hah.

anyway. I too did not know it existed. Maybe I'd heard TB mention it one time in one of his YouTube attacking videos when the ContentID thing hit the fan when talking of alternatives but if I did I forgot it.

AnimalMother117: f I knew of an alternative to youtube, I probably would have used it.

Well, not exactly.
Historically you are correct. Back when Youtube was created, Flash was the most adequate solution that worked. Today, HTML5 is out, and browsers can play video directly.

However, Youtube does more than just play the video. It supports ads to monetize the investment. It allows you to change the resolution of the image (and seems to test your system to determine the best one). It allows you to rate and comment the videos you see. It can use all this metadata to help you find the video you are looking for, to to suggest other videos for you to see.

Hosting the videos is the trivial part, that everyone can do. It is adding value on top of that that is the tricky part.

I'm rooting that the Media Goblin project becomes popular. Fingers crossed!
Well, it's not entirely dead. The hosting website is gone but the video player still exists. I watch stuff from Chez Apocalypse like Todd in the Shadows, and they announced some people intend to keep using the blip player, I don't know how that will work, but if so it might save some people from dealing Youtube copyright strikes in the future.

Of course, if any of them can go to youtube they should, it's so much better at bringing in more viewers and expanding your audience, just look at all the people in this very thread that never even heard of blip.

I imagine the Blip player thing will be related to an agreement with Maker. In the mean time, Ursa and Oancitizen are on YT already (they're uploading new stuff to their accounts).
I guess we could say that Blip was...
*puts on sunglasses*
A blip on the radar.
YEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!
