Xscape2041: ...Code Veronica...
...How are the others in comparison?
Code Veronica was a bit different than the first games and I believe that at least some parts of Code Veronica are really hard compared to the first three games in the series. It was the first shift away from the jarring, fixed, cinematic angles. Now I can completely accept why people hated the original style cameras and the way they hide rooms and enemies, but those are an important part of what makes the original RE style special. It will be interesting to the remake of the remake, but I think 4:3 with fixed cameras is likely to be the way to play...

For me, RE2 is the best of them. The way the characters story paths cross over is something not often seen in games. RE is a very close second (the original, not the GC remake) and it has the best, most claustrophobic, tense atmosphere. RE3:N is good, but I didn't find it quite a engaging as the first two although it was still worth a few play throughs!

If I were to draw a comparison to a movie franchise it would be like comparing Alien, Aliens and Alien 3.

Later games in the series are really about cashing in on the franchise, I like RE:4, played it through with a friend and it was good fun, but it's really not the same type of survival horror game that defined the genre. My recommendation would be, as long as you don't hate the camera style play the first two and then quit the series.

of course all re games on gog!!!!!

and especially i hope they stop changing the game characters, to make them prettier in rematered games, reboots and sequels. like they made with lara croft, jill valentine, ashley williams, geralt of rivia and many more!!

Resident Evil 3 imo is the most Survival Oriented of the series. You really need to scrounge up alot of resources if your playing Hard Mode.

Also give the REmake a chance and put behind the original PS1 version. If you want to go Hardcore for the REmake play as Chris in Real Survivor mode.
Hmm, The first Resident Evil is cult classic to me, back to the PsOne.. I have borrowed the Gamecube disk but had no time for it, gave it back.. I guess I'll buy this one and the 4th HD for Pc, even if I have it on Wii someday, but not above 10€ for re-release with just better display. You smartass, Capcom, you..

First Capcom made RE:Revelations in the style of the old games. Then the HD versions for RE4 and Code Veronica X came along. Now RE1 is getting remastered.Either this is a giant apology for RE6 or a "subtle" attempt as easing people in for RE7-which will just be a first person shooter at this point.

rodrolliv: Just how many times can a game be 'remade'? No matter how good it may be, at some point people should just be tired of the same thing with shinier graphs *shrugs*
Its CapCom, they will re-release older titles multiple times to try and milk their IP's... AlphaOmegaSin rants on this a little how Guitar Hero was milked by Activision and finally stopped when the franchise died because apparently people aren't made of money...

But remastering an older title... Didn't they do that with a game when they brought it to the GameCube, and in comparison it sucked because it still had all the old bugs and glitches and was still hard to play? I forget what title it was... Not a big Resident Evil fan here...

But Revelations had just as much slow paced Horror as Resident Evil 6 did and for the most part I thought Resident evil 6 was a fine, well made game. Nice graphics, better controls, somewhat decent AI and a messed up story and lots of re playability.

That's a lot more than I can say about Resident evil 5. Horrific controls, inventory system and that annoying linear pathways. Walk down a small corridor into a big room, shoot bad guys, walk down a small corridor into a big room, shoot bad guys. only to be rewarded with on the rail shooting scenes. How ANY Resident Evil fan can criticize 6 more than 5 is beyond me.

Resi 6 was not perfect but Resi 5 was just horrific.

apehater: i hope they add the gc exclusive re0, that would be great

Elmofongo: Reisdent Evil 2, 3 Outbreak, Code Veronica, and 4 would like a home here too.
Code Veronica's "Nosferatu" boss was terrifying, one of the most memorable bosses in RE ever.

I guess the demo was representative of the final product, then. That FOV, too. Still, I thought the African setting was interesting, racism BS aside.

Xscape2041: The only resident evil game I really got into was the Dreamcast exclusive (at the time) Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Great atmosphere.

Elmofongo: REMAKE is the pinnicle of the series in terms of being a Survival Horror. The Athmosphere is the scariest of all the series

Resident Evil 2 imo has the scariest monster antagonist in the form of William Birkin's monster forms.

Resident Evil 3 imo is more "Survival" Oriented than Scary imo, the levels are the biggest the series had so far with almost the whole of Raccoon City, and of course the Infamous Nemesis that stalks you and has a Rocket Launcher.

Resident Evil 0 is interesting in that you can control 2 characters, its sort of like RE5 Sheva system, but you have much more control of the character, for one you can tinker the AI while the game is paused and you can just let either Rebecca or Billy just use a pistol. It also has the inivation of ditching the chests, instead you can just leave your items on the floor to come back for them later.

Outbreak is underrated imo. The game has the most varied levels in the entire series. A Bar, than the underground labs in RE2, than the Hospital in RE3full of Leeches, a Hotel on Fire and full of Lickers, and a University. File 2 has a Zoo full of zombie animals including an Elephant and a Lion, a Subway full of giant posionous fleas, An Abandon Hospital in the outskirts of the City in the Wods, the famous Police Station in RE2, and an original Laboratory.
the bad thing about outbreak was the timer with the virus infection, why add that to the game in the first place?
This makes me happy, been wanting to try the Remake but never really wanted to sink in a mildly acceptable price on the Gamecube version just yet. Now I can see what the fuss is about without sinking too much into it.

Luisfius: As many as it takes.
Spiderweb games does that. And while the end results get less and less flexible, the games are no less good for it. Exile to Avernum to Avernum: Escape form the Pit, for example.

Personally, RE1 is one of the ones I like the least, RE2 remake? Sure, why not, will keep an eye on RE1 but unless the tone is radically different (and it allows you to do things such as suplexing everything (which it won't, since that started on RE4) I will enjoy it) I don't think I will be very interested on it.
The original Leisure Suit Larry seems to have had a fair few remakes over the years too, especially if you count the original as a remake of the text adventure 'Soft Porn Adventure'

There seems to be a fine line between remakes and iterations when it comes to stuff like FIFA, Civ and the Sim City games too!

Oh and Worms! Team 17 have REALLY milked that one to death over the years!

Meh, i'd rather get a new game instead of a remake of the remake. I guess this is the third remake of the first RE. There's the GC remake and there's also the DS remake.
REmake is not just a good game, it's basically a middle-finger to all the turkey publishers and developers who jumped on the "real-time textured 3D!!!!111" bandwagon in the 90's and early 00's just because it was a new-ish technology, regardless of the fact that it looked like shit. The only 3D models in REmake are the characters/enemies, everything else is static prerendered 2D (like say Fallout or Baldur's Gate but from a different perspective). This game looked AMAZING in 2002, heck it looks as good or better than many real-time 3D games today. If Capcom actually still have the source-code/original art and they re-render all the backgrounds at 1080p, this game will look fucking amazing on a widescreen resolution.

Fuck everyone who thinks the RE series got better by becoming a full-3D over-the-shoulder shooter, being able to only see from fixed perspectives is what gave Resident Evil it's "horror", it's what made you unsure of what was waiting for you in the next scene or what was in the dark corner or around the corner (because you couldn't manipulate the camera to see).

Resident Evil 4 turned the series into a crap third-person shooter, not a survival horror game. RE gameplay is and will always be:
- Static backgrounds with fixed perspective
- Limited ammo and healing items
- Limited saves due to Typewriter/Ink Ribbon
- Weird and creepy puzzles

Oh damn, I forgot completely about Deadly Silence.
