Darvond: You know, CD Projekt Red actually included naked pictures for free with Witcher 2.

almabrds: But who? Depending of the character, that could be a bad extra.
Spoiler Alert:

My desktop is Geralt doing what I affectionately like to call "The Burt Reynolds."

Just kidding. If my Witcher 2 download page isn't lying, it's Triss. I leave it up to you to decide if I was kidding about the desktop too...

The playboy pics of Triss?

Yeah under "Goodies" (tee-hee, *giggle*) it says "Triss Playboy Session." I'm guessing that's what Darvond was talking about.

That is correct.
And GOG adds to the stupid policy of Paradox by once again scorning the linux players : This DLC is a simple set of images, yet GOG manages to make it available only for Windows, while it is obviously available for GNU/Linux on Steam.

Darvond: You know, CD Projekt Red actually included naked pictures for free with Witcher 2.

Just sayin, that's a pretty high bar they set.
Nude pictures aside, they also gave away soundtracks, artbooks, documentaries, free DLC ( with actual gameplay content ) and loads of other freebies. My physical copy of Witcher 3 even came with a small comic book, physical soundtrack and some other goodies. And that was only the "normal" edition, not some overpriced collector's version.

Now, CD Projekt RED may be on the extreme opposite end of the spectrum, and an exception, but it only further emphasizes how ridiculous these DLCs are.

( And let's not forget, for PC games this actually used to be the norm. I still have a few old cardboard big boxes of PC games, and they always had some nice extras. Nowadays publishers charge you extra for everything, and most of the time the extras are only available as digital downloads. )

MaGo72: This is getting ridiculous.

Let me look into my crystal ball, 5 years in the future:

In a mighty fight you face the end of one of your adventures, given to you by a king whose land is fallen prey to a mighty demon, you now stand face to face to this evil spawn.

A tough 30 minute fight later, you open a chest you did find in a hidden chamber of the demon's cave: "You have found the "Plate Armor of the Deep" and the "Bulwark of the Great Dragon". To equip this armor (5.99 $) and the shield(4.99 $) please press the "BUY" button in the right lower corner of this window. If you want ignore the loot press close."
Try "5 years in the past". Stuff like this has already been done. Didn't Assassin's Creed Unity(?) have treasure chests which could only be unlocked through real money payments? And I'm sure tons of mobile games have similar in-app transactions. I think CS:GO and various competitive multiplayer games also have similar systems.

Paradix parked outside today, after hearing how they'd upset the customers.
I think it's a warning ;p
For something completely different, if it's really just some small in-game portraits, how does this add up to a 200+ MB download... ?

TT_TT_TT_TT: I actually dont mind the dlc itself that much but given the fact that they missed a few of their kickstarter goals a dlc like this gets a special bad taste - i mean releasing something like this for free now would be a bit better to appease the backers than to do some money grab now

Frozen: You're mistaking "Tyranny" with "Torment: Tides of Numenera". Tyranny was not Kickstarted.
whoops - my bad and yes you are totally correct :D

Psst. Hey, buddy. Are you looking for some portrait JPEGs?

*opens trench coat*

What I've got right here are genuine, authentic portrait JPEGs. None of that imitation stuff.

The first portrait JPEGS come with the game for free; they get you hooked.

After that? You've got to pay.

That's how they get ya.

Chandoraa: Yeah, I think the time has come to stop regarding GOG as being any better than any other store. Not that I even care about this game in particular (not until it's very heavily discounted anyway), but you could say this is the straw that broke the camel's back. I so wish I had a backup of Good Old GOG's advertising videos about being ripped off or eating the whole cake to prove my point, but then again, who could expect at that time that they'd end up pulling such a 180° turn? Well, whatever, it's not like it's the first time the games industry (or a niche thereof) stops regarding me as a desirable target or anything.

synfresh: If GoG wants to be a real legitimate entity in the digital game business, these are the things you have to do. At some point they decided they didn't want to be a niche little store, probably because they found out that business model is not sustainable in this current environment. Things like regional pricing, introducing a client, early access are all things that make sense in order to operate in these times.
Ironically, that just makes them a dime o' dozend. For multiplayer games, I don't care if I have to run Galaxy or Steam Client. I don't trust either of these.

Valid questions.

GR00T: Hmmm, what an odd DLC. Have to agree with Starmaker though, that this is exactly the type of DLC that's fine by me. No requirement whatsoever to have it, but if you've got money to burn, then this could be for you.
I agree with you, but only in part. It's nice that they made this DLC only with content that you can skip and not lose anything important. What I can't in full conscience agree with is the price of 4 bucks for a bunch of portraits. We're talking 20 pictures here. By selling thousands of copies it shouldn't cost more than 50 cents to pay back its development cost, 1 buck if very greedy. Definitely not 4.

Thanks for the info.
I don't have Witcher II, since I don't think my PC has enough "horsepower" to run it.
It makes me wonder who has the final say about nudity in games released here. It's up to the developers or is the g0g team that decides if it's appropriate to release it censored here or not?
Some have nudity by default, others are censored by default:

CharlesGrey: Also, is it just me or are these portraits kind of boring? They're well painted, but they all look like pretty, feminine 20- or 30-somethings. Not enough variety in appearance and personality for me, and why are they all human? Doesn't the game have demons and other non-humans?
In Tyranny, you only have the option to play as a human. It's part of the story, where you are the fatebinder.

@Topic
What greed! I thought it was obnoxious enough when Paradox made people pay for a character creator/customizer in CK2. Now, they are making people pay for stuff that mods are currently doing for free and also produce more value. Has anyone seen the mod portrait packs? They are better and have more variety.
