Yep, that fixed it.

Wow, didn't know there was voice acting in that version.

Of course, it is much better, than the N64 version. The graphics are crisp etc.
I had a lot of fun on that last mission.

people panned the shit out of this game when it came out. largely because the game got super hard after those really fun easy to play speeder missions. it was kind of bait and switch.

the last mission can be really fun too though the trick is just to follow an enemy for a while and then try and shoot them instead of trying to get on one right away and see them all zoom by in their own direction. you have to get close enough first or the angles are just too much.

I found that the game becomes a bit easier if you don't just concentrate on your objectives, but take the time to get the challenge points. That way, you can rack up a fair few extra lives for when the going gets tough.

Oh, and store up your more powerful ammo, and only use it when absolutely necessary. :-)
Has anyone tried Shadows of the Empire on Win7 yet?

Works fine for me so far. Game itself works flawless, I just have some minor issues customizing the controls for the Xbox 360 controller.

I'm finding JoyTokey a life saver here. Like most older games, this one doesn't see the second analog stick, or the L/R triggers. Setting joytokey to only run while the shadows.exe process is up, and settings L and R to usable keyboard buttons, as well as the right analog stick, has allowed me more configuration options. Although for some reason I can't get the game to accept input changes on the asteroid level.

So I purchased it today. and the Snowspeeder level was very straightforward as I remembered it on the N64. Playing on 1280x768 on a 1366x960 LCD monitor. When I reached the second level, I noticed with my 360 gamepad (fantastic job to the people who worked aplenty on mapping the ctrls by the way), I noticed that strafing function, action function (activating switches and opening doors) and aiming function are missing on gamepad.. I can toggle crouch very well, and shoot obviously, move with joystick, and while switching weapon types will take some getting used to via Pause screen, the missing functions are essential to me since SOTE is filled with panel switches and doors, as well as turrets of sorts located above ceilings and high-above.

It's possible, I will have to map the keyboard controls through xpadder onto gamepad, but really don't want to go through that for the moment. Otherwise, I'll either wait a wk or look into Rogue Squadron since it's been in GOG store for about a yr or so. If anything else, I will look into manual mapping for 360 gamepad. Some of the functions work, just a matter of adding in the strafing, aiming, action, and maybe even the switch weapon types.

So only certain buttons on the 360 controller will work? is it just the LT/RT keys that aren't detected?

From what I remember it had an internal mapper, like every PC game at the time, there should be no need for Xpadder.

Nice. I'm definitely interested... seeing how I own all the other Star Wars games here. While my interest in the movie franchise has waned a bit over the years, I'm still a sucker for its video games. :)

Bigs: One of the first 3D recreations of Empire Strikes Back‘s Battle of Hoth, Shadows‘ first level was so good, so nostalgia inducing, to this day most fans forget that there was actually a terrible game attached to it.
And without it we wouldn't have had Rogue Squadron. ;) It's a shame that the sequels were Gamecube exclusives.

Like others I'm hoping it won't be the only Star Wars release this week, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was it. We shall see.

IwubCheeze: Thanks for the heads up. I'm also assuming the speeder bike level will be a pain in the arse too. No worried, I'll just wishlist the game for now until I get around to picking up a gamepad :)

PassiveZombie: As I recall, jumping was also a bit problematic. Dash would just sort of "hang" in the air while moving forward. Particularly annoying when you're working through that really long level with Boba Fett, just before you reach the first wampa. I can't tell you how many times I ended up falling off the cliff because he "forgot" to land with his feet on the ground. (annoyed grunt) That was more likely a physics/rendering issue - not knowing when to stop. For those of us who have played the game in this release, did anyone ever get around to fixing that?
Yeah, the Gall Spaceport level was a really weird level where the first part felt the ledges were made of ice. I also had problems over jumping my target several times too. I don't remember having this problem when playing this game on the N64.

I experimented a bit with the internal mapping via pause menu. It should've been the first thing to check before posting here but no matter, and I experimented a bit with different inputs. I'd hoped the left/right strafing would work with same button inputs but no it will not. Only the Standard layout will allow strafing vwith Y button + left joystick as well as Activate and even then the ability to manual aim is missing.

I have a old-fashioned layout when some shooter games used to have the "A button" on the N64 gamepad or "X" on the PS1 controller as the fire button and assigned LB+RB for strafing, Y to Jump, B to aim, X to activate panel/doors, A to fire, SELECT to toggle weapon types, and Right Stick press to active Jetpack since I will need it on both Gall Spaceport and halfpast Xizor's Palace.

Thank you for the info earlier.
