The legend is reborn.

Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition, the return of the most celebrated RPG of all time, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.

A layered story laced with philosophical undercurrents. A fantasy setting unlike any other. One of the most memorable casts of eccentric, interconnected characters. This is Planescape: Torment, the gold standard for narrative-driven RPGs of the past 18 years. And now it's back!
Beamdog and lead designer Chris Avellone joined forces to update the game with fixes, enhancements, and key additions, all in sync with the original vision of this timeless masterpiece. With a remastered soundtrack, a crisp 4K interface, and neat convenience features, the Enhanced Edition is coming to captivate a new audience and remind its dedicated fans why they just can't seem able to take it off their all-time favorites list.

Additionally, *hear* the Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition Official Soundtrack – a remastered masterpiece by Mark Morgan, one of gaming's most legendary composers.

Note: Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition features the unaltered original version and the Enhanced Edition in one definitive collection exclusively on GOG.com.

Watch the trailer.

Why on earth do they keep using the zoom feature? All it does it blur the pixels. Is there anyone alive who seriously uses the zoom feature?

Ovners of original Planescape Torment already have the following
Planescape: Torment
manual (50 pages)
HD wallpapers
soundtrack
avatars
artworks
Chris Avellone and Colin McComb book
Windows Russian localization (Fargus)
MAC Russian localization (Fargus)
Linux Russian localization (Fargus)

New players now have to pay for the following. to get same content:
https://www.gog.com/game/planescape_torment_enhanced_edition 20 $ + currency difference
https://www.gog.com/game/planescape_torment_enhanced_edition_official_soundtrack 10$ + currency difference
Total price is now 30$ + currency difference

Admited for that you get a MOD on top as well.
But maybe you don't want to pay extra for a freking MOD.

There is a reasen that so few mod existed for planescape torment. It was alredy made near perfection.

I am glad I already have the game without any mods on, far better that way.

That is really nasty, trying to force people to play an inferier version.
GOG can't help it, Beamdog has rights now, and they don't want the wonderful originals competing with their money grab.

Kinda how my Fallout games are the original releases but everyone who buys it now has the reduced quality package with less goodies.

Rights get sold and things change but, at least with GOG, you aren't out the original when the DRM kicks in and kills your game :)

I don't have any problems with GOG but with Beamdog, the parasite of the industry. As for Bethesda, at least they credit Black Isle as developers unlike Beamdog hacks who consider themselves as developers when in fact they are only modders.

Beamdog is the worst company I know, truly shameful display.

mystral: Maybe the level of hate is ridiculous, but at this point the fact that Beamdog is still making "Enhanced Editions" instead of using the money from previous ones to make a new, original game shows that they're creatively bankrupt and more interested in milking customers for all they're worth than actually making games.

I wish people would stop buying from Beamdog and instead support companies that are actually interested in making new games, but all I can really do is boycott this shitty excuse for a game developer and criticize them on forums.
For sure that is your right, but when looking on the postings it's the same again as the previous discussion: Postings and opinions are downvoted just because of what? So the complete talk starts up on a different level and people could be angry from the beginning just because "someone" downvotes their view or their posting about being happy. And just as in the previous discussion it's not about the game itself, only about "being loudest in hating something" in a gaming forum. Is this productive in any way? ;-)

And just as a note or an example: Being productive would be for example help testing GemRB to run Planescape Torment without problems. I mention that because the new version here also has support for more platforms than only "Windows". So until GemRB runs fine and the originals work: There is more work to do than just "hating" a company doing that kind of job.

I'm guessing it's useful if you're playing on a mobile device cos of the small screen. Other than that though......

Also, is it just me or is it really annoying that by no longer selling PST separately the game no longer holds the #1 spot as best reviewed game on GOG? Deus Ex is now the champion... until it gets 'remastered' and bundled with the original too.

About downvotes, that's definitely not me, I've been ignoring the rep system and refusing to downvote or upvote anything for years.

Maybe the "Enhanced Editions" are useful for letting non-windows gamers play the IE games more easily, although I seem to remember that the originals had Mac versions and that most of the IE games worked fine in Wine (but maybe I'm wrong about that).
However, being a Windows gamer myself, I really don't care about that, and I'm far more interested in developers that can actually make new games. After all, with the rise of crowdfunding, we've seen plenty of new RPGs, and I don't see how remaking old games that worked fine before adds anything to the market.

Its just you and a few others. The majority simply does not care enough to make a fuss about that.

And ... do you know, that is no longer possible to buy the original Fallout games, because Bethesda only offers an enhanced version. How shocking!!!!

Wow. For once, it seems we can purchase a soundtrack without being required to own the GOG version of the game. :)

WTF? This is the same soundtrack that's included for free with the original version of PS:T which you also get when buying the "EE" version. So why would anyone pay 10 bucks for the soundtrack alone?

What a rip off! :D

I attempt to run the game on Ubuntu 16.04 and it doesn't launch. If i manually run start.sh i get this:

Torment: error while loading shared libraries: libjson.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any ideas?

obligatory: i have no issue with what Beamdog are doing. Porting to Linux, enhanced resolution, fixing bugs, remastered audio, etc.

If you don't want to pay for that find a physical media copy on ebay or whatever.

As to writing new IP, i understand that they are planning on that. Right now though there is demand for updated versions of these games that don't require 2 days of faffing about to get to work. $30, $50, $70 is worth it for the time i don't have to spend chasing down my originals then reading forums for hours to get them to work on my platform of choice.

I get the irony given my post is about a game launch failure, but it's day 1 and no doubt will be resolved.
