Let's turn the page.

Visual Novels have arrived on GOG.com! Our first selection includes acclaimed games, revered for their intricate artwork and stimulating stories, up to 66% off until May 29, 1pm UTC.

Higurashi When They Cry Chapters 1-5 (25% off): Spawning a popular anime and manga series, Higurashi is a "sound novel", where meticulously designed audio plays a crucial part in these unique stories. Chapters 1-5 are available today, with Chapter 6 slated for release in the near future.

fault (50% off): Sometimes it takes a healthy dose of pulp sci-fi and a dash of fantasy to weave a powerful cinematic story about the human condition. These two episodes of the ongoing series star the perky princess Selphine and her sarcastic guardian Ritona, as they desperately try to make their way back to their homeland.

Sunrider series (66% off): An alternate universe, intergalactic strife, mech combat, high school, and love all around. Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius (free!), Liberation Day, and Sunrider Academy are a beloved and unique mix of strategy, romance, and visual novel. De-censor patch optional, but come on.

eden* (66% off): Stock up on tissues. This critically-acclaimed love story on a dying planet is a real tear-jerker told with stunning cinematic flair. Humanity is about to be wiped out by a red star but this story is destined to stick around for much longer.
Great and smart move gog! I've never played any VNs but I always wanted to try some of them.

A question: Are these uncensored versions?
This is a glorious day indeed. Thank you GOG for making visual novels available here!

Let's go Sengoku Rance and the Baldr series! Anyone? No? Just me? Okay then -_-

I prefer my Hgames with lots of gameplay rather than the VN variety. Still good to see these here though.

Anaxphone: I don't usually try to get a game on, but I'd be very happy if GoG would carry We Know the Devil. It's currently available solely via a website version or Steam. I'd love to have an offline version with DRM.
Wishlist are not for games that will get here but for games GOG is able to get here .....
a game having 1.000.000 wishes ( a crazy example) doesnt mean the game will arrive ....
i have to admit when i first joined i really thought the amount of wishes matter.... sounds silly but i really did, now i woke up, in fact 2016 i woke up.... :D i'm awake now :D

DreamedArtist: I am very worried we will never get to see Da Capo, Ef: A Fairy Tale of the Two and those AAA style VN's reach here...

Come on mangaGamer! PLEASE BRING OVER DA CAPO AND EF SERIES! and....... Go! Go! Nippon!..... I got a soft spot for that one.... ^_^

Gersen: There is also the two Stein Gate games, especially as, at least the first one, not sure about 0, is already DRM-free.
I am just worried that this partnership was to just offload the weaker selling VN's I HOPE I AM WRONG, Cause I know mangaGamer has some major stuff and I want to see it here if they are now partnered with GOG,

Maybe I am asking for too much but why not really? I hope this does not turn into an EA or Ubisoft thing where we get like a few games and nothing else you know?

Okay, am I the only one who thought of "Shaka, when the walls fell" when reading this title? :P
Not my thing, but more options is always a good thing.

Totally agree more is always better but be careful to avoid niche games ....

Desmight: Time will tell, btw, but I have a horrible feeling of deja vu about this. Steam also started with "a few good ones", but now...
Well a good 90% of the shovelwares found on Steam are assets flip of Unreal or Unity demo games, with a couple of RPG maker ones thrown into it, not really VNs. The shovelware and lack of curation from Steam is not limited to a single genre, far from it.
Ah, so the day came when visual novels hit GOG in force.

So when can we expect Sakura games? :D
Seeing these all over the front page was hilarious -- A reaction to Steam's recent censorship debacle?

Most of them seem a bit ugly or downright creepy, but it's good to see some more variety on GOG, and more games being offered sans DRM. Maybe some future visual novel style releases will be more appealing to people who aren't hardcore fans of the genre. I'd possibly buy something with a Horror or Fantasy theme, and a nicer, less generic art style.

By the way, GOG already sold some similar games years ago, such as Long Live The Queen.

P.S.: Hey GOG, how about Tokyo Dark? Wasn't that one rejected for looking too much like a VN, or something?

tibs210: As a fan of the visual novel genre I just want to say a thank you to GOG for implementing it. Granted, like a lot of game genres their's a lot, and I do mean A LOT of trash out their, and even more crappy H-VN games, but their's some damn fine stories out their too. It's a genre that's always been a guilty pleasure of mine, and I look forward to seeing more of these titles come to the platform.

That being said, I do have a request. It's not for a game, but for three tags specifically for this new (to this platform) genre. Would you kindly add the following genre tags:
1) Non-Kinetic = This is the type of visual novel that actually has some gameplay, whether it be just picking A or B, or something more deeper. This can be anything from the current "Sunrider Academy" or something like Danganronpa.
2) Kinetic = This is the opposite of the Non-Kinetic genre. These are purely linear, and don't have any gameplay at all bar the button press to continue the story. This is personally a genre I don't play, and as such don't have many examples that immediatly come to mind. I think "eden*" would be such a game.
3) H-Game = This is just straight up porn. It could either be Kinetic or Non-Kinetic, but the acual purpose is just for masterbation, whether it panders to the male or female audience. It's less interested in telling an interesting story, and more intent on delivering fan-service, and often include over-the-top sexual content. This sub-genre is way too big, and is often what people think of when people think of VNs, often giving the genre a bad name.

JinKazaragi: Problem with the last Tag is that there are also VNs with H-content which actually also tell very good stories (F/SN, Grisaia, Ayakashibito, and many more), you'd have to Split it into 2 Tags to avoid confusion
Very true, but notice I didn't say H-Games don't have bad stories. Reason being, whether a story is "good" or "bad" is up for debate, and larger public opinion. How would you define such a thing? People would define, and set the bar at different levels. However, I trust GOG to keep delivering good quality checks, and not distribute a game just because it's been released. This is, at the moment rather clear with the VN games that has just launched (arguably all are at least decent), and hopefully these checks would continue.

Did you see this earlier post (92)? It linked to an article that had just barely been published a half hour before. Quoted MangaGamer, and said it was partly response to Steam's action last week or so, but that they had been in talks for a while. And that they are planning on nine more, including something called "Kindred Spirits". Check the article linked in the post, because I don't know anything about any of this.
